  1. That's what I was thinking too. Do you have any way to ride (even rent) other bikes near you? Might be a good way to expand your palette while your wallet is open.
  2. Put that way, I guess I agree. Of course, in my little world, automobile drivers would be forced to take recurrent retraining every 5 years. Same for motorcycle and firearm owners. I know, pipe dream...
  3. OK, I'll be the contrarian today. What's the logic behind eliminating the 12 hour training minimum? Don't we wantCHL holders to have at least basic training? I do like the rest of the bill.
  4. Oh, I'm with ya on both points. Put the F****** phone away and help your fellow being instead of jizzing about what you'll be able to tell your hipster social media brethren at the bar later, ya know?! In their slight defense, they may have started thinking this was just another naked druggie weirdo, Jason Russell-style, until he crossed line towards assault. At that point, their only protection anyway was to call 911 and/or walk away, or coordinate a group response, and few have enough personal crisis leadership to do the latter. In this case, even the presence of a pistol may have been enough to make this guy get serious, hopefully in the right direction and not escalation. I would have had no problem drawing my weapon to protect myself, my family and friends, but would have been in a major quandary about how to respond protecting citizens who very well may pay me back with prison time. I think that a lot (all?) of us with CHLs would like to think the public will respond favorably to our intervention, but that's not always the case, and frankly it scares the bejebus out of me.
  5. Well, it's San Francisco, not Texas or Florida - Read http://www.sf-police.org/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentID=25868 and you'll see a reflection of prevailing public sentiment slanted against the gun owner. They also get a lot of crazies who act weird but are otherwise harmless, which isn't to defend this guy in the least - I would have been gravely concerned about his intent - but I mention it because you'd probably get jurors who are less exposed to what can go wrong when someone crosses the crazy line into violence. That's true everywhere, but maybe even more so in San Fran given their moderate temperatures that allow for higher rates of street residence. Even once you fulfill all the SFPD's requirements, I bet you'd still be held to a standard of first retreating or exhausting non-lethal options first. You'd be on at least one camera, so every action would be under scrutiny. Sorry if it sounds like I'm being a CHL buzzkill - I'm a CHL guy myself, but my class was quite clear and sober about what happens after the shots. Personally I would have done exactly what that big dude did - intervene whenever a specific citizen was at risk, then back away and shoo others from this guy to let him tweak in peace. I'd also have called for others to block the entrances - the crazy was able to harass several others who entered with their earbuds in - stupid fools.
  6. Please pardon my ignorance but is a chain drive typical for this class?
  7. I traded a bike for my V-Star last spring and had a similar positive experience.
  8. So, you're willing to subject OTHER's families to the surprise of OC and potential of confrontation with law enforcement in order to (theoretically) forward a political agenda, but not your own family. That tells us you're fully aware of the often-negative social mechanics of OC AND that you could care less about other's disruption. This from a guy who opened a several-day-old thread with insults and "F yous." Could someone seal this thread? It's revealing things about members I kinda wish I hadn't learned.
  9. And often to assist with the fallen rider's medical or burial expenses while their family struggles without them. But hey, it feeds their "combat brother in arms" mythos.
  10. I'm no pro but there's no way would I part it out! Heck, being stock and only 7 years old means she's still a baby. I top-end-overhauled an 85 Honda over the winter without any prior experience and she runs like a top now. PM me your email address and tell me what you did before it stopped running right. Everything. You can get her back in full form if you're patient and methodical and I'll be happy to spell out the basic steps.
  11. But, but maybe GMO corn ethanol will make our motorcycles go faster... Or burn them out more quickly than we rot eating it ;-D
  12. Sometimes I miss things while giving people every opportunity to impress me. Damn her - I knew there was a reason we got that divorce! I don't have as many places to hide sand as she does, and I guarantee you sir that she conceals a lot more sand than I ever will...! I never said don't carry open, I just said to consider (and hopefully avoid) potential negative effects of accidental reveals. Actually I think that open carry in a retainment holster is much better than an accidental CHL reveal because it's overt from the start.
  13. I won't reveal where I conceal my sand. It's a tactical advantage you know...
  14. I just did, but they confirmed you have a license to conceal sand.
  15. Nah, because I'm not trying to preserve the right to wear thongs in Wal*Mart. Find someone else to blame - you don't get what I'm saying because you're too stuck in a binary us-vs-them mode.
  16. For what it's worth, Progressive will discount for one course but not additional courses.
  17. I get on edge when I see a fat person in a thong in Wal*Mart.
  18. You see this as catering to people's ignorant fears without any benefit because "people who don't want the gun carried openly probably don't want them carried concealed either," which in my experience is absolutely not true. As such, you have forged every "carry" social exchange before it even occurs. You started by calling it "catering", which is a negative word and partially rhymes with "pandering." At that moment, you've already prejudged anyone uncomfortable with open carry as "agin us" who are unworthy of respect or courtesy in the matter. I really believe you're unwilling to leave those words behind and think about this as a matter of consideration and respect that can take us much further to a mutual goal society being more comfortable with citizen carry. What I'm talking about doesn't require you to change your political position about lawful carry one iota - it merely calls you to consider that "people with ignorant fears" still vote, and they may vote for gun restrictions or may convince store owners to put up more of those damned signs if they perceive gun owners as arrogant pricks who can't keep their gats in their pants as part of some constitutional bare-all. I'm being dead serious about this - there are moderates in this world, and lots of them despite what FOX, MSNBC, NRA and Brady so desperately want us to believe. Frankly it's a shame you're willing to be creative only in the direction that fits with your vision for a social end-state. You're willing to impose your rights and expect social flexibility and adaptation upon others while being unwilling to bend to their sensitivities, i.e. to not have to see guns, and go on elevated alert, everywhere they travel. Where you see weakness, others see relaxed quality of life. Both perspectives have a lot of merit in different circumstances, but that's the point - I believe we should be sensitive to situations when a gun's reveal works more against than for us.
  19. Oh now that's mature. Good thing gun owners don't suffer a reputation for being paranoid isolationists with itchy trigger fingers. You guys really don't have a clue about how that type of attitude paints gun owners, and rights, negatively, do you? I.P. I wouldn't have predicted you'd be a part of the parade.
  20. No, I don't, but it's not about me, remember? It's about impressions that the general public gets. It's about having respect for their need to not freak out in the normal course of the day, and about not provoking fatigue from the public that could result in tighter gun laws. Look, wear what you want how you want when you want to wear it. Just don't get sandy when the public has had enough.
