  1. http://www.projectchildsafe.org/safetyKits/tour_info.cfm?StartRow=1&state=OH It's a good program, and once you've secured your guns, the cables make for really handy helmet locks too... ;-)
  2. Stay on it man. Beat it into a bloody, carcinogen-riddled corpse and be done with it. If you're willing to protect your life with a gun, I'd be disappointed if you didn't do it by kicking cigs! ;-D
  3. And that Jax and his old man aren't getting along.
  4. An SV650 is no slouch - enjoy what you have! No need to apologize for being conservative on the turns - your brain is just trying to protect you. It'll learn what's necessary and when it's unnecessary if you just stretch it a little at a time. Nothing crazy, just little stretches. Anyway, I'm game for a relaxed ride most weekends and some evenings too now that it's light until 8 or so. I'm probably one of the more conservative riders on the board due to multiple factors, but I wouldn't call my style boring either. It's about reasonable risk mitigation I guess.
  5. I can't yet imagine how to get over fear after a nasty tumble, but there's a lot to be said for throwing yourself onto unknown country roads, going for an hour then taking a break to see what's next. I've ridden a lot of roads east of Westerville, but don't ask me to tell you which ones they were on a map - I probably don't remember!
  6. Arthritic neck and lower back here, with some stenosis and facet nerve compression. So, yea, I know what you mean. But I'm going to ride as long as I can - surgery will come at some point, and it'll impose it's own break. Aging is no game for sissies.
  7. Westerville here, and Pokey's right - lots of great riding within a short shot. Mt Vernon via 3 is a pleasant ride, then back via 13 or other options. I'd totally be into rides less than a couple hours or so in duration. My neck and back sometimes limit me from much longer, so I like to play it conservatively. Anywho, I have a Nighthawk standard/sport bike and a VStar cruiser that can both keep up nicely.
  8. Magley I kept my mind open about you for months but dude, now you're just trolling. Go outside.
  9. Jodi and I (Scott) had a great time meeting folks at Iron Pony and experiencing our first group ride to Logan. A couple times I wish I'd brought my Nighthawk 700 but the VStar 1100 was a lot more comfortable for the two of us. Funny how there was only one other (Zuki S/M/C50) cruiser, and nobody else 2-up on the way down but I never mind being different. :-). And wow, what a great array of sport bikes to look at! Special kudos to those who held traffic and negotiated traffic for the group, and for the few riding pre-2000 equipment - I love looking at the older stuff. Anyway, we had planned to break off and do our own thing instead of the full ride, to work up to longer rides later, and it was a good call, and a great time. We took 664 north to 13 to 79 to 16/161 to Westerville. Very scenic and experience-building on a 2-up cruiser but we took it easy and never felt out of our comfort level. So, thank you everyone for the great time, and my thoughts are with those who went down. I'm looking forward to more opportunities to ride together!
  10. Bike fueled, fluids checked, pressures adjusted.
  11. Glad you're ok, bummer about the handlebars, but glad you're ok.
  12. Thank you Pokey! I unfortunately learned my lesson when taking my daughter flying in hot, bumpy weather. She won't fly with me anymore :-(.
  13. Good likelihood we'll meet at IP with my GF on the back of my VStar, but I think we'll split off from the group once in Logan and visit Athens, or maybe take the scenic route to Newark then Columbus to shorten the ride. Yea, I know, but we're still working up our riding endurance together, and I don't want to spoil a good thing by traveling too long just yet, ya know?
  14. If she's smart she'll get a good lawyer who will plead to a much lesser charge. They'll tell a story about acting to reduce the risk of her friend carrying while impaired and being unaware of the details of concealed carry law because she's not a holder herself. If brought to jurors, I bet they'll agree that she was acting as a samaritan. There could be much more to the story of course, but if I were in her shoes, that's the key angle I'd take and try to get off on a civil charge and fine at worst.
  15. Nothing at the London Ohio Walmart except 12 gauge. At Vance's there were $20 boxes of 50 9mm and $40 for 100, but no .380 or .22lr. I didn't have time to check the other calibers but I think I spotted .40. I'm gonna need more 380 for this little gen 3 LCP I fell for. Oh, LEPD on Bethel yesterday had quite a few calibers for range customers. The prices were a few bucks high but at least they have stuff to shoot.
  16. That's one of the reasons why I let my membership end years ago after a decade with the NRA. The constant emails, calls and postal solicitations pissed me off. There was a constant "the sky is falling and it's all <insert anti-gun enemy's> fault so you need to be a patriot and donate another 100 clams before you children are defenseless and collaborating with commits!" tone. The radical paranoia and contortion of the truth was unpalatable, and I bet it's just as bad or worse now. Alas, I did renew when I took my CCW class, so like an idiot, I bet I just sealed my fate for another decade...
  17. Possibly to avoid getting caught in a "gotcha journalism" piece by an enterprising investigative reporter showing how easy it is to buy a weapon of mass ugliness from popular sporting goods chains. If I were a corporate exec for Dick's, answerable to a board and shareholders, I might have done the same - lay low with the ARs and see how things play out before maybe bringing them back. Remember how angry we all were when Wal-Mart pulled handguns from their cases? Be honest, who's shopped there since then? ;-)
  18. Scruit that has to be the best damned post I've read here all week. Thoughtful, informative and to the point. Don't let it happen again, you're giving the Internet a bad name.
  19. Dick's caters primarily to urban and suburban golfers, runners, sports fans, etc. who likely aren't gun owners. Firearms are just a portion of their business, and since it's a polarizing one in "charged" times, I can see the corporate rationale to protect their core business model. If that ticks you off, that's equally understandable but realize that avoiding Dicks means they'll eventually shed the rest of their hunting department and eliminate a source of guns, ammo, targets, scopes, etc. from the market, which leaves us with fewer options. I'm not trying to propose what anybody does - personally I don't like Dick's prices on most things anyway, but I'm just saying that we could hurt ourselves in the process of making a political statement. To me, shopping for ammo at Dick's is still better than getting gouged by "supply and demand, bitches!" opportunists online or at gun shows.
  20. I agree with the first part but not the second. Sounds like the cop didn't draw until he was at the car, so the driver wouldn't have known he was in danger until then. Bolting away from the cop prior could cave gotten him an evading charge.
  21. At least, and I'd suspend his CCW privileges until he's cleared.
  22. What the hell is wrong with you???
