  1. You gona drive that to work everyday?
  2. I go to work out 70 west and I noticed someone pulled over on 70 east this morning and allmost every day last week in the morning. I go past there at about 7:40. I've seen them pulled over anywhere in bettwen 142 and the hilliard exit (about a 5 mi. span) but usually much closer to the 142 exit. I saw two cops one day last week, one had someone pulled over, the other was further up just waiting. I've also noticed a decent amount of partoling there on my way back from work too. Probably because of the heavy traffic around the 70&270 area of the westside. I've noticed more cops siting on 70 west and east right outside of 270 in the afternoon though. Be careful around there. 3. that car's gona be down right sick.
  4. Mine is in the bottom of my radiator, I've usually seen them in the raditor end tanks or coolant elbow, but I guess it could be anywhere in your coolant system. EDIT: now that I think about it most probable place is somewhere on the radiator, or in the coolant tract after it leaves your engine to go into the radiator (or I guess it could be coming back out, but that wouldn't be as acurate). My logic is that it has to be somewhere near where the coolant is hiting the radiator, because the fan only realy cares how hot the coolant in the radiator is, not in the rest of the system. The temp. in the rest of system (read engine) is the tstats job. Oh ya, my car was overheating when I got it, turned out to be a fugged up electrical connector to the fan that's supposed to kick on. Check your coolant level, shake the engine around. I like the idea that someone else had that there are air bubles in the system, that's the only thing that makes sense if your needle is jumping around faster than it should.
  5. Look, one of the scooby guys I was talking about chimed in. I think anyone with a 45 IQ could gleem from my post this was a generalization for turbo cars, and allmost allways works. K&N intake that replaces the airbox only is usually fairly cheap, makes the intake sound much better, and I highly doubt the stock airbox is as good as an aftermarket cone filter. A few HP is very hard to prove on a dyno, and that's all a filter will net you on a stock car usually. I'm willing to bet if it's proveable (probably not) that it doens't net any HP stock, it will do two things. It WILL change your power curves, and it would help once you did other things (open it up more). Are your cars speed density or tuned to the raged edge from the factory? If you answer no to both of these, then it will run leaner when you open it up, but it more than likely ran a little rich stock, that whole engineering for saftey thing. graemlins/nonono.giftongue.gif I've also read that thoes ECU's do a pretty good job of changing due to enviormental changes/minor boltons... how true is this? You CANNOT beat an MBC for the price, they work pretty well, allmost as well as any electronic boost controler for far less. Atmospheric changes? Unless you live in colorad at mile high and drive through the mountians on a regular basis I highly doubt you would need to worry about that very much. Where do you live (just wondering)? And if you'd look at that webpage there is an accessorie you can buy to change it from the cockpit... haha, i said cock. Mines been sitting in the same place for so long I'm not sure I could change it if I wanted (rusted, I bought a crappy one). It allways hits what it was originally set at, other than my boost creep (not related to the MBC, other minor issue). I've also never driven my car outside of the midwest. EBC's have not been proven to handel overboost problems any better than an MBC, I think there 1 or 2 that claim to help this problem.
  6. Posted this on Columbus DSM too, so if you read it there, it's the same thing. Any DSM guys have a known working TCU? I can give someone a deposit if they'd like while I borrow it becuas the problem is intermentient and doesn't happen all of the time, so I might need it for a week or so. Background: Car stays in thrid gear no matter what just while the car is on, turn it of and back on once the cars warmed up and it's fine. Thinking it's the caps in the TCU, take TCU and ECU out and sure enough there's a leaky cap in the TCU. I replace the caps but this doesn't fix the problem. The cap did leak out on the board and a surface mount diode, I'm thinking this might be the problem. Now the car will start in first sometimes, then 'clunk' a few times and stick in third. One time it 'clunked' back out of third into fourth and worked fine without me turning the car off and on. It's only done the clunking thing twice, and it sometimes just does the normal third gear only bit (the TCU going into safe mode, but doesn't spit out any codes). And it only ever does this when the car is cold, making me think it's a mechanical (tranny) problem... I replaced the tranny filter and fluid (switched to B&M trick shift, cheaper and closer). That didn't help either. Any help would be greatly appericated. This is looking more and more like an internal tranny problem, but I want to try to do the easy, cheper stuff first. Becuase if it's the tranny I'm not gona waste my time rebiulding the auto tranny, I'm just gona swap a 5 speed, but I'd rather save that for when I actually have the money to do it.
  7. For some odd reason I haven't seen alot, that't doesn't mean I'm not watching my speed even more than usual. My little brother (only a year and a half younger than me) got his first ticket yesterday for a 77 in a 65. I think that everyone can do themselves a favor and not speed labor day weekend, or memorial day weekend. I had my only ticket in the last 3 years on memorial day weekend last summer.
  8. I don't like you very much. tongue.gif
  9. Thanks for correcting about not being able to be a cheap ass and get the mbc, didn't know that. The only thing dsm ECU's do well is retard for knock and hit fuel cut (but this happens at a certian freq. for the maf, seems to vary alot from car to car).
  10. Yeah, that's usually a pretty solid combo. Another note. WRX's are a boxer engine, the have 2 manifolds that collect the 2 sets of exhaust on each side, then some sort of y pipe that goes into a precat (that's before the turbo). I've heard this refered to as an up-pipe in the scobby community. Something to that effect, never looked under the hood of one of thoes beast before. Precats kill turbo perfomance quite a bit, it's another thing to try and get (the up pipe w/o cat). I've heard either the up pipe or down pipe are a PITA to do in that car though (can't remember which one). But yeah, up pipe, down pipe, test pipe and cat back exhaust (aka full exhaust). Then whatever's easiest to do on the intake side (k&n bolt on, solid hot air intake w/filter). And a manual boost controler www.boostcontroller.com or you can make a home depto one (do a google search on home made mbc or something to that effect). The new hallman pro on there looks fucking sweet. Hopefully one of the wrx guys will chime in soon, I'm sure there's a nice forum somewhere for info on this (a scobby forum).
  11. Doug's intake goes Woot Woot graemlins/bubbrubb.gif (flutter flutter fultter flutter) graemlins/slap.gif
  12. From what I've heard they don't just 'die' when the caps go out, they start acting 'funny'. ECU codes http://www.myzero.com/electrical/code.html You's get no more help unless you reply back.
  13. Beaters dying while race cars aren't tuned makes baby jesus cry.
  14. Trouble Maker

    Ideas?

Do they make euro headlights and these 'eyebrows' for my car?
  15. cut them with a big knife.... or stab or swipe, you chose the motion.
  16. Done and done, but thanks for the help offer. One of the caps in the TCU leaked, pretty sure that's the culpurit. Gona replace all the big (electrolytic) caps in the ECU and TCU, hopefully (it should) that will fix it.
  17. Not yet, it got late and I have no garage. Gona work on it tommrow sometime. You've got a PM. Actually I found a sight on pulling codes from the TCU so I'm gona reconnect my ECU tommrow and drive it a bit, hopeuflly my TCU will still have any codes that were in it before. But I still plan on taking them out sometime, maybe even tommrow still.
  18. Damnit all to hell and back. I took all the stuff apart to get to the ECU and TCU (going to replace all caps), and can't see the TCU. Anyone know where it is on my car? Also there are three electrical pin out connectors on the ECU, got both outsides ones off, but the middel one is broken. The little tab that you depress to release the connector is broken, not there. But the part of the tab that is used to keep it in is still there. There are two little 'tabs' on the outside of the big tab on all three that are also still there on the broken one. I've been sturgling with this thing for about half an hour trying to get it out. Fingers, screwdrivers, can't get it to come out. Any tips on how to get this thing out. graemlins/doh.gif
  19. Well wtf.... It did it again today, but then quite again after two on of cycles, just like last time. ie: runs fine, turn off car, turn on car, only 3rd gear, turn off car, turn on car, only 3rd gear, turn off car, turn on car, runs fine. Don't know how many times I've started and stoped it sine it last did this, but I've driven about half a tanks worth of gas since then, all the time working fine. Only unifying factor either time when it started was my car was very cold (as in hadn't been started in a quite a few hours), and it was very hot outside... I'm just about to say fuck it and do the m/t swap, I've been wanting to anyways, just not now (money)...
  20. Normally if someone has allready posted what I was gona say I'd just leave it alone.... but just buy another car, seriously. I suggest a 2g awd dsm if you like girrley looking cars (must if you drive a newer cougar).... graemlins/puke.gif You could just got buy an evo and an sti for the money it would cost you to do that project...
  21. Just changed my plugs and wires about a month ago, generic 40 buck wires, ngk bpr6es plugs.... but it's done this thing a few times where i'll get on it, even though more than one gear, and as i get off it does this fluttering thing, like a miss, but only when I'm geting off of the gas... related? Never done fuel filter. Maybe I'll do that and tranny fluid and filter, never done thoes either (owned the car for about a year and a half now). I was thinking some kind of safe mode in the computer that controls the tranny too, but when I've heard of cars doing this the computer kill's od only, 1-3 are good. I've heard of numerous other cars doing this (various makes and models). Of course I was geting on the gas. graemlins/burnout02.gif
  22. As far as I can tell, two totally different problems, but I'm lazy and don't want to make two post. For background, thoes who don't know: 92 eagel talon tsi awd w/small 16g, full exhuast, k&n filter, mbc set to 10psi, automatic. First problem: When going around corners the engine just dies. I'm assuming it's losing fuel. I've read stuff about the pickups in our cars not being so good and if you autox/road race/go around any corners you shouldn't let it drop bellow 1/4 of a tank. Well it's never done this before, even on E. It did it a few times when I had a little less than a quarter of a tank in the last month or so. Well two days ago driving home I had a supposed half a tank (backed up by me geting gas the next day when it read 3/8 and it took 8gals.). It did it three different times on the way home around corners. I also looked down after some long sweeping corners and my low fuel light came on for a half a second. Second problem: That night before when my car was cutting out around the coreners, other than that problem, it drove fine. This is the one that really concerns me. Went to meet my mom at the krogers ~1.5 mi from our house. Car wouldn't shift out of third. It wouldn't shift on it's own or if I tried to manually shift it. It did this on the way there and back (after sitting for about an hour). Remember, it ran fine to appelbees and back the night before. Let it sit in our driveway for another hour. Took it for a ride and it was fine, it's been fine since then too. Any ideas would be greatly appericated. Thanks all, later.
  23. We just stoped one time on the way back and his back ones were grinding a bit just as we came to a stop. There's some nice groves on the back rotors. From what he was saying they are just very old and it was their time to go.... I'm sure the mountains didn't help though.
  24. full exhuast good sound me like big pipes can do my car? full setence good...ummmm
