  2. That engine sounds awesome! Is it a really short stroke? What's the difference between that engine and the RS8 or whatever that crazy mid engined thing is called. You are right- 310 hp is a big jump and with awd, a lighter car, and a manual transmission it should be a lot of fun. With that torque it would be a great off road rally car??? Audi Quattros are good at that no? Subscribing!

I don't know if you all saw this comment in the original article posted in this thread but it impacted me: ----------------------------- I met Paul a couple years back here in Toronto. I was a freshly minted 20 year old wannabe know it all still obsessed with the F&F films. He was here for TIFF, and had stopped in a Starbucks, real incognito style, and ordered a drink. When I spotted him, my first thought was to not say anything at all, and sneak a photo with my iPhone, but as I was staring at him (he was wearing a baseball cap and a Lakers tee) he noticed me, and he said "You know who I am huh? Or are you just starstruck?" and then laughed. I told him I definitely recognized him and that I had seen all his movies and his trip to Mines Japan (which I still haven't visited!) and thought he was a cool dude. I told him I loved cars, and someday hoped to have a Skyline GT-R myself. I couldn't get the words out fast enough - I swear I felt like the kid from a Christmas Story blurting out what he wanted to Santa. He just smiled and nodded his head and said "That's cool man. You seem like a cool dude, I think you'll land a GT-R with that kind of attitude. Don't give up on your passion, and next time, say hello! Take it easy." and he walked out to a busy College and Yonge intersection. The genuine kindness that emitted from him was huge. You could tell he was a car guy, and appreciated all car guys. To say I'm sad to see he's passed is an understatement - I think all the guys in my age group (25-30) can say that he undoubtedly fueled and ignited a huge passion for tuning and Japanese cars that we still have to this day. He'll be sorely missed, but greatly remembered.

  7. We go to dale tree farm every year- nice trees but expensive! I bought a tree from homedepot once - It was cheap but maybe I got the wrong type as it really dropped its needles- there wasn't much left by christmas

  9. Thanks for the support! Yeah, it actually feels like it might someday be truly quick! It went sideways to 5k on cheater slicks in my test run- granted not heated up- but better then falling on its face and going nowhere.
  10. Okay, I replaced all of the springs and before I sealed it back up I started to adjust the valves. In the process, I discovered 3 more lifters which were locked up. Even though I had compression in those cylinders, I went ahead and replaced them. I sealed up the intake and let it sit overnight. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/hpfiend/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps68b83c97.jpg The next day, I hooked up the vacuum gauge and low and behold, the vacuum reading was steady! I tuned the mixture screws for maximum vacuum of about 14 and got out the adjustable timing light. Apparently with the dual light springs, 16 degree base timing and the vacuum can hooked up the timing was excessive as it would surge if held at a sturdy 2000 rpm. I unplugged the vacuum can and set it for 15 degree base timing and put the blue bushing in for 21 degree centrifugal advance by 2500 rpm for a total of 36. The engine revved much more cleanly. After much trial and error with shooter and pump cams I determined that the 50cc accelerator pump with a blue pump cam and factory 28 shooter on the primary and a green pump cam in the back with the 30cc pump and the factory 31 shooter to be ideal. Dead spot is gone and it runs like an animal!!!!! Finally. Idle and cruise AFR are at 12-12.5 and wot sits at 11.5.

  13. Hey all- I will admit my track record with grilling anything is not stellar. Searching the forum, I have picked up this so far. Buy quality meat from carfagnas- Use coarse ground salt pepper and a little garlic powder or Tim Taylor's dry rub Charcoal - not lighter fluid 6 min per side medium heat. But as the devil is in the details... What type of meat - filet, ribeye, not sure which two steaks make a t-bone, etc? thickness/weight? Cover the steak with salt/pepper rub or sprinkle it lightly over both sides? Tim Taylor's recipe has quantities but he shows one steak in the picture- put all of that on one steak? And regarding medium heat would be what temperature wise ? Once charcoals are white, before? Should I use a meat thermometer - I do have one. Lastly, grille top open or shut. You won't offend me - the dumber the better- THANKS!

  19. Hey all, Anyone know this car? I was cruising yesterday in the c5z and this silver pickup with front and rear blacks came from behind, pulled beside me and hammered it. It kind of surprised me but your truck sounded really good... Is that a honda 3.5 v6? Turbo? Thanks

    Just curious but did it come with that red permatex on there or did you add that to seal it better? The reason I ask is the turbo I bought (different type) doesn't have any and I wonder if I should add it.

Ok- I managed to tear it down in order to remove the lifters in question.http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/hpfiend/image_zps3d57008a.jpg I took them over to Mike Rush at M&M Head service and he said that the exhaust valve lifter was indeed locked up but he managed to release it with his shop press. I bought two new lifters from him and put them in the bores. As I was putting the rocker arm back on to adjust the valves, I noticed that the one of the rocker studs had a pretty decent gouge near the bottom from the rocker arm: http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/hpfiend/image_zps3568f81e.jpg Using some hardened nuts that Mike gave me, a stack of washers, and a heavy hammer, I replaced both rocker studs: http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/hpfiend/image_zps310e0d16.jpg With the new studs, I adjusted the valves and the exhaust still didn't feel right when I tightened one half turn past zero lash. As I rocked the rocker I noticed that I was able to compress the valve spring by hand with minimal pressure. I popped the gauge off the compression tester and hooked it to the air compressor to keep the valve from falling as I tried to remove the spring. I could not figure out why the spring compressor kept popping off until I noticed this: http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/hpfiend/image_zpsd074db16.jpg I finally managed to remove the broken spring from the head and returned to M&M. I was just going to replace the one spring but after talking with Mike and his estimation of the wear on the spring, I think I am going to get a full set. I told Mike about the dished .030 over pistons that were in it and with some other questions he asked me he was able to estimate the compression as just under 9.5 : 1. A lot higher than we were expecting...
  22. Thanks all- Ok, expedition out, appreciate your input... Range Rover for 3K ? Don't they have a lot of problems? I do like the 4runners but they rust like crazy and I couldn't find one with less than 180K in my price range last time I looked... On the durango- not really a fan of dodge and their truck reliability/power/mpg ratings unless the cummins models and they aren't cheap... On the ambulance- while the kids would love it, I don't know if that would go over in the neighborhood That sounds like a good deal on the subaru, thanks for sharing. I think we need a wagon though for the hauling space and our 2 kids. Don't the 99-04 I6 cherokees have transmission problems- did you have any with yours?? I love the XJ's but they are getting really old and rusty- I was looking for an 01-04 Grand Cherokee selectrac V8 for a while as they have the cummins heavy truck transmissions in them but they were too expensive around 120K and under and hard to find with the selectrac. I looked at the CRV's and again with under 120K hard to find in this price range.. I am trying to stick with 01 and newer models as the LATCH car seat system is soo much easier...I would obviously prefer under 100K but that doesn't look possible either so I am trying for 120K. Really strongly considering the 01-04 Subaru Outback LL Bean with the H6 but so far they have been hard to find... Thanks for all the suggestions...
