Political Thread Of Fail And AIDS (Geeto ahead!)
zeitgeist57 replied to BStowers023's topic in Dumpster
No. Unless you're the President with all of THIS going on... ...and still act like a grade-A a$$hole. Then, YES. Personal conduct plays a huge part in people's perception. Here's the thing, Brandon: In a Central Ohio car forum I am openly admitting that I voted for Donald Trump for President, and I am disappointed at my choice. The man LITERALLY could sit in the Lincoln bedroom, eat MickeyD's, Tweet pro-Trump "accomplishments" and he'd have a 60% approval rate. Instead, he takes cheap shots at B-list political players, alienates other global leaders, and becomes the target of jokes and unnecessary NOISE, because of his actions. He's not a good President. He's not even a very good mascot. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. -

Kerry doesn't have to point it out...you just did. And if you didn't, I WOULD HAVE. He's disappointing from a personal conduct standpoint, which matters to some people. I've said it before and I'll say it again: one of my McSteaks is assuming the gravity of being the President of the United States of America would've humbled Trump into being more of a statesman, and it hasn't. My feelings aren't hurt. My accounts are fatter. Trump is his own worst enemy (how many of his cabinet has come and gone in less than a year?) and I cannot see how history will regard him any other way...DOW 25,000+ included. That's all. Full disclosure: Just like under Obama, I wish the best for the President and our country. Anything less from a U.S. citizen is pitiful. -

I made my reasonings around voting for Trump further up the thread. NO RAGRETS. Obama was also my President and I show both men respect for holding the position. However, Trump has been way more disappointing. What I've learned is to have a far more open eye towards any candidate, GOP or Dem (Roy Moore, anyone? ) Agreed. Trump has proven - as well as the primary election newsfeed - that being President is not better than being a celebrity. Oprah is making hundreds of millions in Weight Watchers stock...what's running the free world going to do for her aside from a truly passionate need to serve the public greater good that she's not already doing? (See below for emphasis of this point.) You're going to want to avoid the Smithsonian's African American Museum then. https://nmaahc.si.edu/ I went through it while visiting in DC. While hugely informative and very well done, many of the exhibits were generously donated/curated by Oprah Winfrey and close friends. We sanitize much of history as a means of supporting our own struggle for a better future. MLK, Jr...didn't I just hear something about his infidelities (mistress/affairs, drinking, drugs) during Civil Rights movement? NMAAHC makes frequent mentioning of William Jefferson's six children born into slavery? I don't remember reading any of that in textbooks. :gabe: -
I'm surprised by YouTubers I watch - Tavarish, Gingium, ChrisFix, HOONIGANS...Tony Angelo??? - how drifting is so popular amongst the youngin's. That said, it did crack me up how much fun they had wrecking Stubby Bob and Tony Angelo said he's going to make all his cars into wheelie-cars.

C5 wheels, while now readily available and cheap, do NOT look good on a C4 Any interior shots?

First is cost. It's $2500-$4000 more for the diesel. Secondly, the EcoBoost engines are giving up 5-8 MPG to the diesel, but in the USA diesel is now much more expensive than regular, let alone premium or super. Again...if economics are of a concern, then the EcoBoost's running on regular will save $$$ over the life of the truck. If diesel was cheaper than gas - which it used to be years ago - I'd give more credit to the PowerStroke. Outside of that, I'll give the diesel credit for likely not needing different/more expensive maintenance (DEF, special servicing, etc) but that could be a factor. The EcoBoost's are proven to be a very reliable mill, as opposed to gas engines of the past where they may have gotten tired after 100k miles. Plus, as I mentioned, the transmissions used to be beefier behind diesels but in 2018 that's not the case...it's relatively the same as the gas powertrains (brakes, rearends, suspension as well).

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/2018-ford-f-150-diesel-full-details-news 10 years ago, we'd be ga-ga about a half-ton pickup truck with a diesel. My my, how times have changed. Thanks to N/A V8's become serious thumpers (6.xL GM, Ram) and especially with the gas EcoBoost engines, it's funny to me how part of the steam is taken out of this news about a 3.0L diesel for the F-150. Still, makes perfect sense as Ram has one, and Ford already developed the mill for Land Rover globally. Another differentiator I can think of which made diesels so much different than half-ton trucks was the need to have some super-beefy transmissions behind them. If you had a gas 6- or 8-cyl, you could put a solid automatic or stick behind it and be done. Once the HD game started taking off, you had to have Allison make you some 900lb 6-speed auto to back it. Now, you've got 8- to 10-speed transmissions that put stick-shifts to shame. Again...it's amazing how the automotive world has changed. Pretty cool to see. I'd still get a 2.7L or 3.5L EcoBoost.

Shocking how much the ZL1 depreciates even over it's chassis-mate, the ATS-V...

My friend just brought home his FiL’s 1979 Elky from northern FL. It’s in excellent, no-rust condition but the sun and moisture has not been kind to the interior. The instrument panel looks like the guts are gone inside of the clear plastic: you can see corrosive dust, and none of the lights work. Similar story with the climate control panel. The column trans shifter and turn signal are equally corroded. Anyone have a ‘70s/80s GM G-Body or El Camino instrument panel and associated interior parts? Thanks!

CarDomain and old car forum posts (that always pop up when you do Google searches for specific make/model fixes) are going to be hilarious to read years from now when these older models will be obsolete

https://columbus.craigslist.org/tls/d/frame-bumper-jack-car-lift-air/6448044306.html So, this thing looks seriously old-school, but for a home lift where you're not planning on getting under the car, do they still make lifts like this? EDIT: I guess they do. Why on earth would you get this over a QuickJack or traditional 2-post/4-post aside from portability? https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Norco-8-5-Ton-Long-Reach-Automotive-Car-Truck-Air-Lift-Frame-Bumper-Jack-/201534405292

Saw "Baby Driver" a couple nights ago. It was entertaining, and I did love the driving scenes and music score - very much like "Drive" w/ Ryan Gosling in that aspect - but I didn't love it like I did for "Drive". Maybe I'll want to see it again down the road. The cast was great: Punisher-dude, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx was the best. Was watching "Wind River" (Jeremy Renner) last night...it was off to a really good start before I fell asleep. #oldmanproblems

Hot Rod just went 11.83 in a bone stock 2018 GT Stang
zeitgeist57 replied to Geeto67's topic in Passing Lane
I appreciate this comment, and represents my problem with such high sticker prices in the automotive industry: it's difficult for me to spend +$20k on a car when financing/present-value cost of funds (the cash I outlay to buy it) means I'm losing money while I have it. Aaron's Mustang is a far more valuable vehicle in that it's both a DD and an effective race car, instead of many enthusiasts needing seperate machines for both. -

+1. LOL @ 20-speed transmission and 5.83 rear gears. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. No doubt impressive numbers, but seriously...with a 10-speed automatic can you not have a super-high rear gear and taller lower ratios for blitzing off-the-line launches, yet one or two overdrives to still cruise the highway and get 30mpg with 4.11 rear gears? Why have a 3.15 rear gear and 10-speeds? The powerband is THAT thin that it always needs to be shifting to keep it on a boil? -

He's not going to read any of that. In other news...This will be an interesting book. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/michael-wolff-my-insane-year-inside-trumps-white-house-1071504 I lose more faith/optimism in Trump on a daily basis. Anyone still supporting him as President - much, MUCH less his willingness/ability to get. anything. done. - is a fool. -
Thank you for the update, Trish! It does sound like you're truly giving her much better opportunities for a brighter future than where she was before. From what you've shared, you're doing it right. Remind yourself that you HAVE to go with your gut as a parent: if she's acting out inappropriately or not enough, correct her. It may feel painful in the moment and 21st-Century social media leads us to think we're supposed to be "best friends" with our kids, but raising them up well means love AND guidance...and the latter needs to be taught and enforced! Difficult to hear about her physical issues but sounds like much of that can be corrected. Keep up the great work!

Yup...realistically it would be a lot of work and $$$ under the hood of a land yacht that sees less than 500 miles a year and has to push around 4600 lbs sloooowly.
-
Yup...easy googling shows that the aftermarket largely left the 400 alone. My era of Lincoln had either a 400/2bbl or a 460/4bbl...I got the decidedly NOT PERFORMANCE VERSION:lol: GLWS, Will!

I was impressed with Star Wars. Dude, it's two and a half hours and doesn't drag. I will say seeing it at Grandview Theater with a couple of IPA's in my belly helped. I really want to contribute to this thread but it's been a busy year...I honestly cannot remember what tickled my fancy! I was SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED with Star Trek: Beyond... love this newer Star Trek series with Chris Pine but this one was terrible. Thanks for some of the recommendations in this thread as well. I have access to Wind River and Baby Driver and have been meaning to watch them.

A little info and details about a CCW class on Saturday, January 13th
zeitgeist57 replied to Mojoe's topic in Dumpster
Gotta say as well - Joe ended up teaching a whole class of just my wife, myself, my father, and many of my extended family (BiL's SiL's) in one class. Everyone was highly impressed, and Joe even helped my two sis-in-laws by being a consult for them when they were looking at guns afterwards for themselves. TONS of trust in this man. To say that Joe is both an expert as well as highly professional is an understatement. If you're thinking of your CCW Permit, you need to go no further than Joe! -
Commercial Truck Tires...anyone have any leads?
zeitgeist57 replied to 1Quik7's topic in Passing Lane
Sweet! Thanks for the pic. Another +1 for Derek. His shop will win you over as well. -
Not expecting you to know, Will...but can anyone tell me if the heads/Intake manifold would work on a 400ci on a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V? I’ll do some research... EDIT: doesn’t look like it’s compatible with the 400. Thanks anyway.
