i got it. it was the shift spindles, they werent lined up. had to buy a socket and take the trans almost completely apart. should have it running tomorrow! hope it doesnt rain...

ok so ive tried rolling it back and forth while trying to change gears, with and w/o holding the clutch in. i took the clutch assembly out and and the clutch basket cog teeth were not lined up with the primary gear. so i took the bushing out from the center of the basket moved the basket to line up with the primary gear. also the presure plate one-way bearing was installed backwards. everything spins freely as it should until i put the nut on and tighten it. i dont have a torque wrench, it requires 33-40lbft. once fully assembled it still doesnt shift out of what i believe is 1st gear. ive read the section in the service manual too many times now. i took a break for the simpsons and family guy, and am going back out now

yep...going to buy 27mm socket for clutch removal... it will go up like you can upshift but it doesnt engage the next gear. pushing the lever down if feels like its in first and cant go lower.... we'll see what happens once i get the clutch assembly out...

so im putting this 83 honda vt750 together finally got all the parts i was waiting on and now i find out that the bike doesnt change gears. it isnt running yet, not together enough for a test. before i tear it all down are there any other options? the shift peg moves up and down, but when i move the lever it doesnt click into a different gear, its almost like something isnt lined up or something... i dunno know. the manual i have says before servicing clutch etc to shift into the highest gear, which i cant do!! so where should start...

i just got back from DC and have started finishing up my shadow. after going through the boxes of parts i found all the clutch parts that i need. i have 4 or 5 lines and 2 mc. one mc is shot the other operates smoothly and is very clean in side with no corrosion. so.... i need to rebuild my clutch master cyl on my 83 honda vt750. the rubber boot on the plunger is about gone. are there any tricks or suggestions to make this go easier? i checked out ebay, rebuild kits a plenty, useable used parts were scarce and didnt look great. also i have a few clutch lines, some are trash and one or two look great. is there anything that i can use to rinse/clean out the line that wont react with brake fluid? after the clutch is hooked up i can finish the drive train and put the gas tank on and ride!

my future mother-in-law works in senoir health care as a marketing manager or something like that, her job is to bring in new residents, so she needs a "luxury" car to impress new clients, "dress for success" kind of thing... she is currently driving a 97-99 dont remember exact year infiniti qx4 suv with over 270k miles, she drive a lot. before the infiniti she had a 94 e190 2.6. which still runs and is just sitting in her driveway if anyone wants to make an offer. straight six, auto ~170k, speakers all shot, exterior is good, int needs cleaned. whats the infiniti worth? been well maintained, 4x4. shes wants something that gets better mileage than her current and isnt wanting to spend more than $14k. she was looking at some jagaurs, i told her not a good choice, just from what ive heard they break alot/unreliable she also looked at the civic hybrid, definately to basic a vehicle for her needs and for how much time she spends on the road it wouldnt be comfortable for the long rides i told her that her best bet would be an acura tl or lexus 330 early to mid 2000s to keep it around $14k. any one have any other sugestions? -

just purchased some 1983 VT750's got them off of a guy that has restored them as a hobby for years one is about 85-90% completed, powder coated frame, new factory paint and badges. needs pipes put on, wire up the head light, seats and tank installed and few little things then its on the road! it'll look great when its done, this guy put some serious hours in this one the second he was using as a parts bike. this one has a salvage title. is it possible to rebuild? the third is just a bare frame. each frame has a motor. only have one set of pipes. oh and i have a truck bed full of parts. so once i get the first one completed i'll be doing an inventory of parts. hopefully i will be able to build another one. but if anyone needs anything let me know and when i get back home from DC (doing a coop) in a month or two i'll see what i have. i'll check back here everyonce in a while and i will update this thread once i get home and get the first one done. also will probably consider selling my gsxr once the shadows done.

ive always been worried about that when riding in crackron... if the theif wasnt wearing a helmet i would have head butted him in the face and took off! :zoom: however if the theif was wearing a helmet he probably had planned this, especially for that bike...
