  1. Yeah, I'm as ready for tomorrow as I can be. I did wire up the pump but I'm not using a switch or relay at this point. For tomorrow I will manually plug and unplug the pump. I'll put a relay in later, probably wire it to something that will activate as an accessory. Then I can switch the ignition to accessory and run the pump without the motor.
  2. I'm in too for extra prep. I sure as hell don't need it, but I'd rather have it than not.
  3. We're almost there. I did fire the motor last night, so I think I'm good there. All that is left to do is wire the new water pump and re-install the K&N intake. The wiring has me stumped though. I obviously can handle the ground, but I really have no idea where to pull power from. I'll be home from work about 4 today and working on it then.
  4. Yeah, it'll be a cold one alright. The Camaro is almost done though. Electric water pump is installed, just need to put the K&N intake back on and wire the water pump. Anyone know how to wire a Mez electric water pump in an LT1 Camaro?
  5. We'll it's getting closer. Last night we hoped to have it all back together, but of course one thing after another went wrong. Went to mount the pump housing back on the block and noticed a bolt was missing. I did find it, but that burned 45 minutes of daylight. Then the replacement spark plug wire I had crimped came apart and we burned another hour recrimping the replacement wire. About the only thing we managed to get done was notch the fan shroud so it will clear the electric water pump. Tonight we plan on getting all the plug wires back in place. Getting the hoses all back on the water pump, installing the electric motor on the pump and putting the fans back in. It should be doable as long as I don't run into any more unexpected problems.
  6. Thanks guys. The contact was polite, but did not help. Now it's my turn to apologize. I hate it when some one makes an assumption and passes it off as fact. The kid is still in a very bad spot, but no, does not need a fuel tank. Turns out the filler neck and the tank are two different pieces. As soon as he tightened up the connectors between the two the leak went away. Thanks for the support though.
  7. Hey folks. I have been informed we have a student in need at our school and I thought maybe we'd have a kind soul on here with a car part we need to help this kid. The kid turned 18 and his folks kicked him out. I don't know the reason. He is no longer homeless and has found a job, but without the car he'll be back on the bottom very quickly. The car is a 75 duster with a leaking fuel tank. I assume it is rusted through, but I know it is leaking fuel. I also know that finding a replacement part is probably a pipe dream and repairing it is also probably more than the car is worth. My thought is that some one may have a fuel cell in some back corner of the shop that is not being used and no plans for use. Maybe something you bought that does not fit your project. I've talked to the auto tech teacher and he'll donate the time to install it in his trunk, and I'll donate any fittings it needs. Does anyone have some hunk of junk laying around that would safely hold fuel that they are willing to donate to the cause, or I can buy for cheap? I know they would not be asking if there was another way.

  9. Well, we fucked up the water pump housing pressing the bearings out. The freeze plug that Mez packaged with the pump would not fit. Eric Grimes to the rescue. Grabbed another freeze plug from NAPA, he confirmed it was the correct size. Now it is pressed in and the weep hole has been plugged. Hopefully I'll have the pump mounted tonight. Then button everything back up and the car should be ready to go for Saturday.

  14. No, it's not me. A friend of mine just purchased a crappy looking 77 Mustang with a 302. The body is solid, but otherwise it looks like a huge puddle of diarrhea to me. Anyhow, he is a mechanic, but also a major cheapskate. He has built racecars in the past, so he does have some idea what he's getting into. I figured I would try helping him out by seeing if anyone has parts he can use they are willing to sell. His goal is gut it and make a 10 second track only car out of it. The motor runs, but he wants a dual carb high rise intake, with or without carbs (I know, fat chance). The auto trans is probably junk and he'll need a rebuilt/built one anyhow. It has an 8 inch rear end he wants to replace with a 9 inch. There is not much of an interior, but he wants to cage it. He plans on keeping the stock dash (who the hell knows why, cause it looks shitty like the rest of the car), but he needs basically everything else. Once he gets the car mostly sorted out he wants to spray it, but that will be a while till he's in the market for a kit. Anyhow, if you have any parts you think apply to this project and you want them out of your garage or shed, PM me with a description and a price and I'll pass it along to him. He is a major cheapskate though so if you're wanting top dollar we're probably wasting each others time. Anyhow, those are all the details I know, mainly because I know dick about mustangs.

  16. I grabbed a Meziere last night at Jegs. We'll have to get the guts of the old pump pressed out before I can get the rest of this done. Luckily we have a press in the autotech lab here at school so I should be able to get that done today. With a little luck and some work I should be good to go by the end of the weekend.

  18. In my case the story I'm thinking of is riding my motorcycle to Las Vegas. Was going well until we rode highway 15 south through southern Utah and Arizona into Nevada early in the afternoon, in July. We decided we could make it if we went exit to exit with stops every time to cool off. What we didn't know was the next exit was 60 miles. That morning we saw the air temp hit 100. Later in the morning my buddy's air temp gauge on his fairing pegged at 120. Then it got hot. I had lost my ear plugs somewhere in Kansas so was wearing my full face helmet to try and save some of my hearing. I flipped up the visor to get some cool air. Have you ever opened the oven door and gotten that blast of hot air in the face? That's what happened when I flipped up my visor. As hot as I was the helmet was insulating my head and keeping the heat out. The next exit for us turned out to be just across the Nevada state line. I was so wiped out from the heat I didn't notice the huge sign when we crossed into Nevada. We pulled into a gas station, and I had the sense to pull the bike up under the canopy and between the pumps so it was out of the way. At which point I made a bee line for the store and was headed toward the bathroom because I knew I would be able to sit down. I wasn't sure how long I was going to keep my feet underneath me. After we downed about $10 worth of water the owner let us refill the bottles from the hose out back. Since it was a Sunday we decided to go across the street to a new casino that was advertising $10 rooms. We each got showers and took naps. Then ate the best $5 prime rib dinner I've ever had. About 10:00 that night when the heat subsided we checked out and rode the rest of the way into Vegas.

  20. Hmmmm, is it a problem if the water pump drive shaft spins, but the impeller does not? Something tells me that is a problem. I have to run to Jegs anyhow to pick up a new spark plug wire set, maybe I'll grab an electric water pump while I'm at it and take back the new one. Thanks for the idea Ant. Anyone know how to wire one of these up? I heard somewhere you need a relay to run the pump because a regular switch will burn up. I would want it running whenever the car is running without having to remember to turn it on.

  23. I probably will eventually. Right now I'm trying to get it back up and running so I don't miss the track day. Initially I didn't install an electric pump because I liked the idea of the mechanical drive, if the engine is turning the pump is turning. There is no core charge on my new pump so I can take the old one and install an electric drive later if I like.
  24. I'm not sure which was more work, putting the engine back in after the rebuild or trying to get this stinking water pump out with the engine in the car. This sucks. Anyhow, I figured she needs a new water pump regardless since it's still the original pump and now 145k on the clock. I have the pump loose and when I turn the pump drive shaft it does turn, but grinds. I ran out of light and patience this evening. I'll go back after it tomorrow and get the old pump out to see if it was running. Either way the new pump will go back in. With the pump out it will be easier to replace the fubar'ed plug wire.
