  1. Hopefully finish the swap in my Rx7 and get it driving this year, maybe take it to a track at some point. Also, I need to get a good ej20 for my wrx and get the title for it (it belonged to a friend of mine who passed, his mom gave it to me then she passed before she got the title done) and use it as my daily. Hope to not be such a hermit this year, maybe come out to CC&C (screw the Friday/Saturday night meets, I haven't gone in a few years as it has become a total shit show), maybe even bring my son and see if I can spark an interest in cars for him.
  2. As a part of a mechanics group on facebook, the general consensus there is they are shit and you should run.
  3. On facebook have her check out local events. If she finds something that piques her interest then go check it out and socialize. Internet probably isn't the best place to look for friends, face to face interaction she will find people she connects with better.
  4. My 17 month old daughter got a hold of a mason jar about a month ago. I thought I heard glass break (it was just the lids) so I took the jar from her real quick thinking she may have broken it. She got mad, looked straight at me and called me an asshole. At least she got the context right.
  5. Did you check the remaining lug nuts to see if they are tight? You saying the car felt shifty makes it sound like a loose wheel to me (I've had it happen) and that can cause the studs to break as well.
  6. Personally, I would go with iron heads. They tend to be more forgiving if the motor gets hot, expansion rates of different metals (with aluminum heads), ect. It seems you want something reliable, seems the safe route to me.
  7. Are we talking about machining/fabricating, or working on cars too? My suggestions for both would be a decent welder, electric high torque impact, quarter driver and a good drill. Bench vise and a press (even if they aren't power tools).
  8. If he wouldn't mind ford powered I have an 04 jaguar x type for sale. 3.0, auto, awd.
  9. My brother does side work for about half of typical shop rate (he is a mechanic). If you want his number let me know, I'm sure he would be happy to help out.
  10. You could try modeling it after this one... https://www.bcsportbikes.com/forum/showthread.php/146566-Build-to-Fail-Fail-to-Build-What-is-this-I-don-t-even#/topics/146566
  11. The equipment is small enough that it could be recovered in your garage. Are you hoping to reuse what you pull out or are you planning on shooting a new charge in? While it's not good for the environment, it is not illegal for a home mechanic to bleed it off to atmosphere.
  12. So, dual engine I assume, and 2 complete different drivetrains. I bet they pair up perfectly...
  13. Only word of advise is that the manual trans behind the 2.5 is shit. If it ever becomes necessary to replace it, get the trans from the I6.
  14. I didn't mean to drop the trans all the way out, just remove the crossmember so you can tilt the motor back. Mostly just to make it possible to get to the nut at the top of the trans that holds the fuel lines.
  15. I just did them in my 03 Avalanche earlier in the summer (on jackstands, what a pain). The top nut that holds them on at the top of the transmission is the biggest pain in the ass. I used a bunch of extensions and a good flex joint (wrapping it with a little electrical tape helps). Take down the front driveshaft and the transmission crossmember to get the access you need. Also, be careful if you have the abs unit on the framerail like I do. You will have to move it, but if the brake lines look fragile then plan to do those too.
  16. Alex Linder is a hell of a welder. Just look for the BPAutosports banner at the top of the page for contact info.
  17. I always thought SSR's were all autotragic.
  18. Another vote for checking fuel pressure. Also, is this the same 4.3 that was used in Blazers and the S-10 trucks that had issues with the fuel spiders (that would cause a long crank)? Also, is there a cel you could have checked? Probably a head gasket. It's always a head gasket with internet diagnostics.
  19. Just remember, whatever you buy you will be spending a lot of time in. Make sure you are comfortable.
  20. I recieved an e-mail yesterday for Pick n pull, looks like they are doing a half off weekend this weekend...
  21. I'll have to go through the garage and see what I have. I know I have an old stove, and a tank for a large air compressor (motor burnt up so I was going to use it for more capacity, but I figure my 15 gal compressor would burn up trying to fill it, and I don't really need it), I may have some other stuff too.
  22. Screenshots, the post has been flagged for removal.
  23. I bet most of the people on this board still go to Jordan.
  24. I'm pretty sure I spotted you a little bit ago headed north on 71 near Polaris, it sounded good.
