  1. motherfucker. This is getting increasingly frustrating... Even if this last part (throttle body removal and cable reinstall) had taken me 30 minutes, I would be DONE by now, and test riding the bike. GEORGE IS GETTIN' UPSET! SERENITY NOW! (are you supposed to yell it? HE DIDN'T SAY!)
  2. Ok, i'm down to where I need to be, but now I can't get the lower throttle cable removed, let alone installed. I believe I have found the 4 screws (2 on each side) that need to be loosened to remove the throttle body, but i have loosened them, and nothing is even close to BUDGING. is there a trick to this, or do I just need to pull harder?
  3. I have next to zero dirt experience, but I believe the "weight the outside peg" advice is derived from the fact that dirt riders usually remove their inside foot from the peg to hold themselves up in the event of a 'dirt lowside.' On a surface that's not loose, that shouldn't be necessary.
  4. I also forgot I had 2 jobs when I really started getting "serious" about riding. The extra $400/month and the fact that I didn't own a house yet both helped too
  5. I think you have to be smart about where and when you spend money. There are plenty of people who have $10,000 motorcycles, generators, tire warmers, enclosed trailers, etc. that they don't really NEED to go racing. I have avoided purchasing all of the above, and I still ride 6-10 times a year. I don't think it really slows me down much either.
  6. The problem is that you're up against bikes like this that are also for sale for only marginally more money. http://cleveland.craigslist.org/mcy/2861663681.html (2007 EX650 with 3,000 miles for $3700 ...and it's not yellow.) GLWS though.
  7. That's a good looking coyote. It's nice to see one that appears to be a healthy weight. I've only ever seen 3 in person, and they always looked like they were a bag of bones. I can't honestly blame them for picking off Pomeranians from old lady's back yards when food seems to be so scarce. I highly doubt coyotes will be a factor at my current residence, but I still rarely leave my dogs outside unsupervised. Hank has tried to attack a skunk on two occasions...
  8. Sounds like the dogs want to find out a lot worse than you do Unfortunately, of you're anything like me, you like the dogs enough that they're more of a liability than much help.
  9. slightly nuanced questions that go along with the original post: - if you're in a busy public restroom (like at a Browns game) and someone in a wheel chair wheels in, do you let them jump to the head of the line for the handicapped stall, or expect them to wait like everyone else? (This is assuming that there are equal lines for EVERY stall and urinal) Personally, I don't think being handicapped entitles you to avoid waiting in line. The lone 'exception' would be below. - I always go for the handicrapper at work. One day I emerged to find a guy in a wheel chair waiting. The bathroom was otherwise empty, and there are 2 other stalls. He was not amused that I could have used them, and instead chose to use "his" stall. My take on this is that I wasn't at fault, but only because I had no way of knowing that he would follow me into the bathroom. Had he entered directly after me, I wouldn't have been douchey enough to take the only stall he can reasonably use. I think my stance on that is reasonable. But again, the exception might be if you actually work WITH someone who is in a wheel chair, and you are 'on notice' that they might have to use the handicrapper at any given time. In my case, this guy was (as far as i know) a client of one of the other companies in the building. If he'd been my coworker, I'd be a little bit of a dick (unless I passed him in the hall, as if he had just left the bathroom, and would not likely be returning so quickly) reasonable?
  10. Looks like my Saturday is planned.
  11. Thanks Steve. That is not what I wanted to hear, but it's at least a definitive answer. 2 hours is optimistic at best, but what you're describing clarifies a few other online "how-to" guides I found. The problem is that they all start with the air box removed. I have a service manual, and have been consulting that, but it's not been overly helpful. Do I really need to remove the upper and lower air box separately? I already removed and rinsed the air filter last night, but I put it back together to avoid getting crap in there.
  12. I was seriously expecting this thread to be someone trying to give away an un-spayed pit-bull... But this is better. Brandon, are there more details about your AMA campaign on AFJ?
  13. Can anyone give me a little guidance here? I have the tank raised and can access the air box, but removing the air box to get to the throttle bodies appears as though it will involve disconnecting all fuel lines and a significant portion of the wiring harness. Neither of those tasks are appealing. I am hoping someone who has done this before knows of a short cut that allows me to remove everything as 2 or 3 relatively intact pieces, rather than disassembling each individual piece as I dig down to the engine. Any advice? Estimate on amount of time I should budget?
  14. my brother and i had the same experience with our dad. Only difference is we knew better than to let him spend $5k on something he wasn't sure he'd enjoy or stick with. His GS500 mostly sat. We rode it more than he did. He sold it for a $200 loss a couple years later, and bought new golf clubs with the cash. I was upset for a while, but then if he tried to get me to love golf, I think I'd use clubs twice, let them sit for a couple years, and then sell them as well...
  15. HAHAHAHAHAhahahahaha So you're saying you're never going to do a trackday then? Why do you think some guys wait until they're 50 or 60 to get on the track? The only way they can afford it is without a mortgage!
  16. i was really disappointed when I realized this thread wasn't in the "NWS" forum
  17. I dig the locks for keeping heat in when its cold out, but I am more worried about buddies locking me IN my trailer from the outside than having them barge in while i'm sleeping or changing. ...or I could delete this post and let you learn this lesson the hard way (and no, i don't own and enclosed trailer, but I have 'locked' a couple of friends in theirs with spare zip-ties.) My buddy Jeff installed a sliding RV window in his 6x12 across from the door. He has a screen door installed, and the cross-breeze from the window and the door makes it pretty comfortable for not having AC. Last time I slept in that trailer we had 2 fans running, but only because we'd already paid for power at Summit. I don't think we'd have bothered running a generator all night just to run a couple fans.
  18. I have toyed with mounting a camera using the "peg" for my frame slider, but I feel like that will just insure I destroy a camera.
  19. Is that the actual price or just MSRP?
  20. Video of you smacking it with a book?
  21. $2500 is really reasonable if that covers ambulance, corner workers, and insurance. Those always seem to be the unforeseen costs that torpedo any dreams of DIY track days.
  22. That is the first time I've ever seen someone agree to go to treatment and then bail. I've seen virtually every other scenario (refuse to go, go and leave after 2 days, go and succeed, go and finish but relapse), so this was at least something new. I did feel a little bad for the guy. Growing up with 2 dads in the 60's and 70's couldn't have been a fun time, and his dad did seem to have some problems giving any sort of positive affirmation (which I can relate to). But I do tend to agree with Brian on this. Whatever their issues, not dealing with them is no one but the addict's fault. There are plenty of people who go through worse and come away better. So does anyone remember "DJ Sean Michael?" they made it sound like he was almost a big deal in the early 90's.
  23. The bottom line is that the cops were in the wrong when they came onto your property. But you werent damaged in any way, so there's nothing you can do about it other than complain. IF the noise complaint was real, anyone can look in the windows of cars parked on the street. Coming onto your driveway is trespassing, but again, how were you damaged. They're going to say no harm no foul. And if they were looking for a sub or something, the alternative is potentially waking up the wrong party at 3 AM. I'm not at all surprised they risked walking on your driveway rather than confronting you. What I actually find more shocking is that your friends didn't get tickets for the 2-6 parking ban.
  24. Please don't part that bike. it is absolutely worth $3k, and it's set up really well... Post it on the NESBA board if you haven't already. I'll bump it up and make fun of the previous owner.
