Too funny. so true about being dated when released.

That was true of a lot of bikes in the 80's and 90's though.

Suzuki's ability to throw (more) modern fairings on the GS500 kept it selling pretty well without a dime of additional development cost.

My dad owned one for a cup of coffee. Bought it to learn in. I actually liked it. Rode great. It was a turd, but it was fun to ride.

I appreciated your story.  For some reason I'm digging more mid-sized, lighter and less-performant air-cooled bikes these days, at least for in-town riding.  I've been teaching my GF how to ride her 125cc scooter and ya know, it's actually quite a hoot to zip around on a 250 lb bike.  I'd gladly pick up a GS500 or lighter for the purpose.

 

Oh, and that review had my GF and me in stitches - too funny!
