Wild NY Bike Attack Vid

Here's part of the story I read.  The next thing you know,

three or more motorcycles together will be considered

gang activity.  I don't like how this reads or the tone in

which it is presented.

 

A large group of motorcyclists had planned an unauthorized gathering in New York on Sunday, similar to an event held last year without permission in which the riders organized online and gathered in large groups in Times Square, the police source said.

This year, the police source said, authorities set up a series of checkpoints at bridges and tunnels to prevent the motorcycle group from gathering in large numbers in the city.

The police source said the motorcyclists who chased the SUV were believed by authorities to have been in Manhattan for the gathering.

I wouldn't cry myself to sleep over that, honestly...  Especially if they made it more like 6 bikes.

 

I can't stand when large groups of bikes disrupt traffic by following too closely and essentially creating one monstrous vehicle.  If you're riding with 5 friends, split into 2 groups of 3, and let the law require that you leave at least 5 car lengths between each group.  Make the rules clear, and have a rational reason for their implementation, and what's the problem?

 

Are you going to argue freedom of association or freedom to peaceably assemble?  Because I don't think either apply on public roads.

 

These "rally" rides and huge groups of riders do a lot more harm for our sport/hobby than they do good.  That goes for public perception, and rate of accidents.

I'm in agreement.  How the general public perceives our activities affects how the authorities perceive us.

We should display model behavior in groups, and when in cities and towns.  Moving quickly on open

roads?  Well now, that's another matter altogether. 

 

But, when rules are made, often they go too far.

You don't like how it reads? The group of bikers literally got together to cause trouble. They met up for a "stunting weekend", where they would ride around Manhattan doing stunts. That's not a peaceful ride...that's getting together to be a nuisance. That's, for the most part, what defines a biker gang.

 

If they would have gotten a permit for a sizable ride like that, they could have even had a police escort if needed. The problem is: They planned on doing something illegal (stunting), so they wouldn't have been able to get one.

 

It might not seem like such a big deal in Ohio, since a majority of the state is rural and a bike group like that wouldn't cause too much of a slowdown, but believe me when I say...it's a whole different animal in NYC. Having lived there, I can tell you what a pain in the **** it is when bikers get together and ride around the city in larger groups, without regard for safety or laws. This definitely isn't the first incident where a man has been pulled from his car and beaten. I've watched people ride down the street intentionally hitting civilians just walking on the sidewalk. It's a nuisance, and it makes sane and civil riders look terrible because of the way they act.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. NYPD said they impounded 55 bikes and arrested 15 bikers over the weekend...and that wasn't even a majority of the bikers that participated in the event. Nobody's going to think that 3 or more bikers are gang activity...but when you have 100+ bikers riding around Manhattan causing trouble, I'd say that should be considered gang activity.

Jokes aside...if a large group of bikers gets together to "stunt around Manhattan" (their words, according to one of the articles), they deserve to be arrested at some point.

 

Riding through Times Square at 40mph wheelie-ing between cars is stupid. I don't care what stunts people want to do, but if you do it in *extremely* foot-traffic busy areas like that, you should have your bike taken away. It's beyond irresponsible and it causes a lot of injuries and problems.

 

I'm blown away that some people are actually sticking up for these idiots. They brake-checked the guy after surrounding him and his family, and then forced him to a stop by surrounding him again...and then everyone is surprised and blown away that he gunned it to get away. Anyone that disagrees with that decision either doesn't have a wife and kids or has pretty messed-up priorities.

I can't believe I'm just reading about this, today.  Lot of different stories/versions/slants/biases floating around.

 

Who brake checks an SUV?  You go out looking for trouble, and are surprised when you find it?  Idiots!

 

With adrenaline high and family in tow, not sure what I would have done.  My daughter's well-being would trump all though.

I didn't like the term, "unauthorized gathering."

 

They were a bunch of hoods.  They should

have responded just like an ordinary traffic

accident.  The guy's wife was probably in a

panic urging him to get out of there.  Cooler

heads could have prevailed.

 

The whole thing is a mess.  And I agree that

they shouldn't be stunting on the streets and

especially in NYC.  I didn't know that's what

they were going there to do.

I'm not sure how I feel about running the guys over to start out with cause you just can't tell what was going on, regardless of the motorcyclist causing the accident.  I don't think stopping around someone on the highway warrants it.  If they were trying to do what they did later and ripping the door open or smashing the window, then absolutely.  The guy smashing the window at the end... wouldn't have batted an eye if the driver shot him.
 

Just saw the guy who tried to rip the door open on the highway defending the bikers.  Sorry bro, you tried to rip open the door, that's gotta be close to assault?

What surprised me most in this video was how many of them were actually wearing helmets...

Also turns out that most of them were riding non-street-legal vehicles, quads, dirtbikes, etc.

 

The guy who was run over and put into a medically-induced coma wasn't even licensed. He lived in Massachusetts (a Masshole -- big surprise, right?) and had never applied for a driver's license, had two temporary motorcycle permits, and had somehow managed to rack up 16 speeding tickets and citations. Mass had actually banned him from operating a motor vehicle in the state until 2017.

Let me put this out there: If you have to remove your license plate for a group ride, there's a great chance it's because you're doing something you don't want to be caught for.

Interesting, I didn't notice the lack of plates the first time around.  The first douche who got hit did not have a plate that I could see.

 

It's amazing seeing comments on some of the national news sites where people don't recognize the first guy that got hit was trying to see how close he could get to the SUV.
