RHill
makes you wonder why this type of thing hasn't been incorporated onto new bikes.... accelerometer wired in parallel to the existing brake system, so the lights show anytime the bike is decelerating past a certain threshold and you can still "signal" with the brake levers if needed. Pretty simple and cheap. Doesn't fix the issue of drivers not paying attention and/or seeing your brake light. When reading the title I thought it was going to be a brake light on riding gear. what
you'd think this would be something insurance companies might subsidize
Steve Butters
I don't want to be "that guy" causing everyone to check up at every fucking corner.Hm, guess I didn't think of that lol
Tonik
I am testing an app that is in develop ment that well detect crashes and text your loved ones and give then the gps to pick up your body. And I can tell you that using the accelerometer alone is a crap shoot. Just a big bump shows as a rapid speed change.Besides being retarded this is going to be hard to do as an add on. It needs to be part of the ecu like bmw is doing it.

Helmutt
Nope. I hate those things. I communicate to other riders with my brake light. This interferes with that. Also, I engine brake all the time on rides. I don't want to be "that guy" causing everyone to check up at every fucking corner. If you want your brake light to illuminate, there's a lever for that. These guys are tools. This /thread
zx3vfr
In the video it said it only comes on when deceleration matches that of braking
dustinsn3485
It doesn't excite me much. I pretty much echo IP. I use the brake lever when coming to a stop so vehicles behind me know I'm stopping. That's the purpose of the lever. Just because I can stop without the use of brakes doesn't mean I should. It's ignorant to do so with traffic around.
ReconRat
Suddenly reminded that the old bikes didn't even have a front brake activated brake light. Only the rear.Suddenly remembering that the rear brake is used to show brake light.Suddenly aware that situational awareness is important, and too many riders won't look behind them. Suddenly wondering where this goes. Auto pilot and sit back and read a book?
ReconRat
Honestly, if you don't already use your brake light to communicate with cars/trucks/bikes behind you, you're doing it wrong.
zx3vfr
Rear brake? What's that?
Gump
Same technology for electric trailer brakes when hauling trailers. It's called proportional electric brakes. You could make your own for around $60 maybe. Could be helpful when cars r behind you but riding behind someone you're not use to, it would take time to realize his brake lights going to come on at every slow down. Wolfman1
Most of the guys I ride with are downshifting and engine breaking. Once in a while you will see break lights when rolling at a hotter pace. It would be quite confusing to see brake lights blinking on and off every time someone downshifts. As stated above, this could cause people to brake check unnecessarily while riding in a group. Now if you ride solo a lot, I could see this working for you as it makes the bike more visible to a car trailing behind. Maybe if the manufacturers actually start making bikes with this option, they will give you a switch that can turn it off when riding with a group. what
I personally use my brake light to send morse-code insults to people behind me. This may cause mixed signals. - --- ... ... - .... .. ...

swingset
I won't comment on the validity of the product, but I can't buy anything from a guy who wears chick shoes....and not even good chick shoes at that. Steve Butters
If I'm going 6 to 3, I'm rev matching that hard of a downshift so there shouldn't be too much decel to trigger this. I haven't been on a group ride in a couple years now, so that aspect of it slipped my mind. I hated riding in groups with people brake light happy. I do see a practical use for this for solo riding. I already signal with my levers even if I'm engine braking, so of course wouldn't need this, but the idea is cool in my book and I don't see any problem with extra visibility for solo riding. /flamesuit
3.504
Loud pipes save lives?Seriously? The brake light already exists and there's still a crazy amount of traffic accidents that happen daily. I don't care if you flash it, strobe it, put bells and whistles all over it, and have it broadcast midget porn, people will still wreck.I'd say the best possibility of survival as a motorcycle rider is to stop riding motorcycles, but who wants to do that? And for no reason.
