Casper
I'm kinda digging the G6. Anybody have any experience with them? Gas mileage? Problems?
Gergwheel1647545492
my dad had one for a rental last week, i had to pick i tup for him. I don't know what motor was in it but he said it got about 23 mpg on mostly higyway driving. seem like nice cars, i like the way the look too. Drewhop
Its a overpriced malibu. Engine options= 3.9 VVti in the high end option.I think they were having some head problems no guarantee on that. Quick car fun to drive. other option i think is the cobalt 2.2 engine and maybe a 3.5 option. They are fun cars but there resale value took a dump in past year. So if your looking for a cheap DD might be a good time for them.
Casper
I was under the impression they all had the 3.5L V6. At least that's the motor that's been in everyone one I've looked at. I've been looking at 2006s. 30k miles, moonroof, auto, pwr everything, cd changer, etc for around $11k. Seems like a really good deal. excell
3.6l vvt V6. It's a stout motor. They're good cars, nice platform.

Drewhop
When i was working for Pontiac Dealership in Marion We were selling 07 Pontiac G6 Base model which is power windows/locks automatic 2.2 4 cylinder for 11,995 brand new zero miles. The 3.5 V6 if im not mistaken is based off of the old 3.4 that they put in the grand ams. That i personally think is junk. The 3.9 vvti which is in the GtP model is the same engine they put in the Cadi CTS/Impala LTZ/ and Malibu SS. Its 242hp 242 tq (in that range) they are quick but brakes are horrible. They are nice cars just my opinion even at 11k still to pricey for what they are.
BloodRed
My Dad has one. I think it is an 06 too. He has 40K on his and they just had to replace the whole stearing rack. He was under warranty, so it was done for free. The mechanic said it is a common problem with them. They knew it was the stearing rack when he called in and told them about the noise it was making. I think he has also had to have both front ball joints replaced too, but that may have been in his old Grand Am.
excell
So the 3500 is a 3.6L? Ah nope, sorry, I neglected to look at the year of the car you're looking at. It's got a 3500 that is based off the 3.4l. The 3.4l is a solid engine, been around for ages.
excell
By the way, I see somene calling the 3.4 "junk". It's not junk, the thing takes some serious abuse. But it's nothing special. It's a daily driver engine.
Buteo
housemate has a black g6, i think its pretty nice. Good ride, decent power, overall good gas mileage. Nice DD imo.
2 Sweet
Personally I think the Saturn Aura has a higher quality feel to it, but the G6 isn't bad at all. They are basically the same car

It's a daily driver engine. I should rephrase that i should not call it junk. I run a buy here pay here and we service all our vehicles. The 3.4 has a very common problem of Intake gaskets going bad. It should be a easy fix cause i think it is caused by intake gasket going bad then causing other problems.(cause our customers dont notice it until it has caused other problems. We just have alot of those 3.4s that we have had to do work on. Between it and zx2 escorts we keep busy just keeping them on the road lol. Back on topic. The G6 is a decent car but it shares its main componets with the Chevy Malibu which has had some brake issues. Probally wont have to worry about any major maintenance till after 100k miles. I just think there are better options out there for 11k dollars.

You must hate every V6 GM motor ever made then. They ALL have that problem. And must hate all Dodges because their transmissions suck. And Fords because they rust and suck gas. And Hondas because they run forever, and that's just not natural.
CJINOHIO03
there is 3 engines available in G6 the 4 cyl and 3.5 and 3.

Got a 2 door 4x4 97 GMC jimmy w/ 4.3 in it cracked a radiotor blew a head gasket, and warped a head. Huge pain in the ass to change engines. Actually i should put my misplaced hate for the engines to the side and hate stupid people for not knowing how to maintenance there own vehicles. You are correct intake gaskets have been going on chevy engines for years and it is honestly a simple cheap fix but they are just ignorant and dont pay attention. I sold the g6's new for a while. And honestly they just never impressed me felt cheap and had bunch rattles when used as a rental car. I guess coming from a wholesale end of car retail business i just think that there are better cars for the money then the G6
evil8
I just put my wife in a Malibu LTZ with the 3.6, she loves it and inexpensive. She was driving a CTS-V before the Malibu. I believe the G6 is based on the same platform as well as the Aura and Saab 9-3.
Casper
You are correct intake gaskets have been going on chevy engines for years and it is honestly a simple cheap fix but they are just ignorant and dont pay attention. I've found the best fix is not using a gasket at all. Seriously. On my old 97 Blazer the intake gasket went out twice. The first time I bought the OEM gasket set and replaced it. The second time I was feeling cheap so I just used the black gasket goop. That was around 140K miles. My brother has it now with over 240K miles and no leaking. Dave1647545494
its got a 60 degree v6 so the intake is going to leak other than that its from the 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 family not loads of power but the motor will good 200-300k miles if you take care of it

TTQ B4U
GM is still having rack issues? shit, I remember my wife's Beretta GTZ and my GA GT back in the early 90's both had those issues. I would have thought they learned how to fix it by now My Dad has one. I think it is an 06 too. He has 40K on his and they just had to replace the whole stearing rack. evil8
Ouch. Not that bad, I sold her Denali and told her to pick something out. Big mistake , she picked MY Cts-v that was sitting in the garage. She had her choice of the new CTS or the Malibu, and she chose the Bu. She was tired of shifting the V while talking on the fooking phone!! You should thank me.
