Damn! I’m getting old…….(Bye Bye MS3)

Its been just under two years and I’ve had a blast. Initially I had planned on just using the speed for DD & Track use in the stock AutoX class. That thought lasted about a week or two.

The cars first night at home(stock as hell)

First came the race wheels 255 width tires, Rmm & RSB.

Then came the TMIC, SRI, TP, & CBE

Shortly after for the first time I got to get on a real road course and to see what the speed could do.

This year marked the first time I was able to get to Tail of the Dragon. The MS3 was on a new suspension setup now and it tackled the mountain head on. I got nothing but compliments about the car and its setup. Especially from the subie WRX’s and STi’s I was with.

I did all this on the stock tune, and didn’t have any issues.

Sadly with my sons getting older and changing financial priorities I had to make a change. I needed something bigger, better on insurance & yet still something I can have fun with. Based on past experiences I knew I wanted a AWD car, so I was going back and forth with the EvoX MR or the new STi Sedan. Neither was better on insurance, with the evo being much worse(for me.) It was looking like I was going to go with the STi which I liked a lot except for it wasn’t as comfortable as the Evo(for me.) Last minute a dark horse came out of nowhere.

I ended up getting a 2010 Taurus SHO for less than both the Evo and STi. Here’s some of the dealers pix. The weather here hasn’t been good enough to take anything yet.

Given the last few cars I’ve had(Si, SRT4 & MS3) this car is HUGE! In comparison. The weight difference is big to I can feel the weight whenever I corner at a decent speed. I can say even with the weight this car is seriously fast. Virtually no lag, and power everywhere. This can pull from 60 to 90 in fifth gear without you realizing it. The haldex AWD system is not as good as the evo or sti but can still transfer most of the power to the rear wheels if needed. We had snow already here and it was easy to get this car to drift through a turn. I had “planned” on keeping the car stock….but that may have change. The car came with a Dynomax Axel-back exhaust that sounds very nice. Livernois also makes a custom flash that can on just their basic stage 2 tune add upwards of 90hp in the upper rpms and get the car in the high 12’s in the ¼ mile. I am also looking to get the sway bars and suspension from the 2012 sho performance package to help with handling. After that I “should” be done. We’ll see how it does this spring to see if I can AutoX in it. Ultimately after a year or two I will pick up a project car just for autoX/road course racing.

Nice purchase. I'm really digging the body style of most all the new Fords. I'm thinking I might have to start changing things up a bit this spring. We'll see.

If you don't mind, how many miles were on it and how much coin did you drop?

Nice move. I like the new land yachts like this. I looked at one for my DD'er but as a co. car it had to be new and thus landed outside my budget so I got the Fusion Sport. Even without boost it hauls ass for what it is so I can only imagine how fun the twins make it. I do also like the gearing Ford has with it's 6spd. Freeway runs and top end is gear perfectly.

Nice Pick up.

Thanks,

the tq of this engine is everywhere. Its so fun for DD duty. Its still takes some getting used to whipping it around corners.

I def didn't see a SHO coming nice pick up.

Me either, i went to the detroit car show and got in one. A few days later i found this one

Worlds biggest exterior, and smallest interior in a single car.

IMO the weakest link are the TINY brakes. Bet that would be your best upgrade.

Not for me, but congrats on the purchase.

Comming from the ms3 is very comfortable. The brake size is fine the stock pad material that is the problem. Hawk or ebc brakes can solve that. I also could put brembo brakes on the front not to much.

How much you get for the MS3 and how many miles on it if you don't mind me asking...could be in the market...:)

And nice SHO, I miss the two I had, even though they were 95's, LOL

I got about 18.5 for the ms3, and it had 20500 miles ln its. This is my 3rd taurus and 2nd SHO.

You better AutoX your old man car!

I will be out there. This will hold me over until i can pick up a track only project. Funny thing is i have to run gs because they haven't classed the new sho yet so im going by the old classification

Nice post, not fan of the car though. Enjoyed seeing the progression of the MS3

Thank you, i enjoyed the ms3 alot.

The show will look 100 times better with a nice set of wheels, debadged and slammed.

i've considered debaging the taurus from the trunk but that is it. I'm on the fence about wheels. 22's look better but damage easier and there are less tire options that are more expensive. 20 is more practical dd duties. As far as lowering i like the ride where its at. I'm more in the hellafunctional than hellaflush ;)
