Your first car

I figured it would be a fun little thread. Lets hear about CR peeps first car stories.

Mine

I bought a 1980 LTD 5.0l with 109,000 miles (carbed) rust bucket for 250 bucks when I was 15. I'm not sure what the law is now, but at the time 15.5 you could get your permit. Anyway, I remember Mom driving me to the farm where it was at.. I instantly fell in love. It was baby blue with rust everywhere, no hub caps, bumpers with rust holes... PERFECT! Did doughnuts for about 30 minutes and some make shift rallycross/drifting in an old field. SOLD.

I dove the car for a bit in high school which I was the odd man out. I was never a rich kid and went to a private school where everyone had new (2000) Cherokees and what not, but for some reason everyone made fun of it/loved it. Lots of fun driving around with friends for no reason, talking and being teens. (Gas was .88 cents a gallon then btw) I even put "dingle berries" (cotton ball things that hang.. think Cheech and Chong) in it. Red glow dice.... Good times.

I miss that bucket. Only reason I stopped driving it was a rich friend of mine sold me his 91 escort 1.9l 5 speed for 50 bucks and it was 10 x faster.

Sorry for the bad grammar

1991 Pontiac 6000 LE - 67k miles when I got it. My parents worked at a salvage yard and it was wrecked. Needed a new windshield and roof. $1800 for the car and all the parts. My dad had a body shop before he died and his former partner did the labor for free.

1995 Ford Taurus SE

3.8L

4 speed auto

85k miles

SE gave it the split leather/cloth seats and spoiler from the SHO and the wheels pictured (not mine)

My dad gave it to me, it was his car, and he upgraded to a brand new 2001 Audi S4 6MT in late 2000.

I drove the Taurus for a bit, then sold it to a cook at QSL (used to work there) for $3,200 and bought my first SHO.

When I was a kid, my grandparents bought a new car and they gave their old one to my mom - a 1976 Mercury Comet with a 302. That's the car I inherited years later when I got a driver's license. 4 months later, I oversteered into a ditch and flipped it.

Looked a lot like this one:

After that I bought a silver 1980 Chevette for $300. 4-door, 4-speed manual. Drove that thing until it hit 200,000 miles and sold it - for $300. No depreciation! :)

Looked a lot like this one, except silver, and with a roof rack:

At the time I wanted a '76 MG Midget but ended up getting a 1981 Volvo 240 Turbo coupe 4 speed w/ electronic overdrive. It looked like this one except mine had some optional headrest covers. Same color.

1978 Caprice here. 305ci 2bbl, fucking beast. Green and rust when I bought it for $275, 11 cans later and painted flat black with black steelies and tinted marker lights. No muffler either :)

I miss that car. Plus, I could easily fit seven people in it.

My first car was a hand me down from my Grandpa, 1988 Jeep Cherokee Limited. Looked just like this one, this is not mine. I had 8 - 10" subs in the back of it at one point and i had red neon lights under it.

I had a 81 Foxbody mustang that was a 4spd automatic.

The starter didnt work right and I would have to smack it with a hammer while trying to start it for it to run. (it was a little copper ball pin hammer)

Such a pile of shit, but it ran and i only paid like $300 bucks for it.

1989 Ford Ranger. 2.3L

Manual trans, manual steering, no a/c

Bought it from Grandma's neighbor, it had been sitting on the street and got rear-ended. Paid like $200 or something for it. Picked up a bed/bumper/hitch/alloy wheels from a scrap yard that were paint matched (lucky) and away I went.

1990 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale with the FE3 package, it was free from a family friend. I actually don't remember what happened to the car, if it blew up or what, but its what I drove until I switch to my dad's GMC Vandura for a while and sold that to get my first sports car, the 87 MK1 MR2 that I had.
