What should I buy for 15k

I have $15,000 to purchase a new-used car/truck/suv, what should I buy?

Only stipulations is it has to be at least a four door and driven year-round (so no used corvette's). We have an old Wrangler in the garage so it wouldn't be driven in heavy snowfall anyway. oh and no salvage titles.

Pontiac G8 GT. It's basically a 4 door chick (autolol) camaro and if you look hard you can find nice ones in your price range:

if you don't like pontiac you can find a 6.0L detective sped caprice for about the same money (maybe cheaper).

A MK7 VW GTI is also a good option, plus you can get it in stick.

an e90 BMW 325/328 I or XI: as much as I loathe recommending old german cars to people, if you want stick, awd, and not to be mistaken for a subaru fanboi this is one of your only options. NA so it doesn't have the turbo problems the 335i has, it's kinda slow as they made between 215 and 270hp through the run but it will still do 120mph on the highway without much effort, and it's comfy. I dd a 2006 now and for a car I bought for $2500 that smelled like a wet dog inside when I bought it, it's been a lot of fun to drive. IT does break because it's a german car with 100K miles on it but nothing catastrophic and I do most of my own maintenance outside in the driveway. I got it with 70K it's got 134K on it now and leaks about a quart of oil between oil changes, but still sees 22-23mph mixed and 28-30 on highway road trips.

Subaru wrx. I think you can find a rex for $15K, right? that's a thing.

Dodge charger R/Ts have to be down to $15K for older ones, I see magnum R/Ts for less than that. Both are decent. actually, some SRT8's are in your price range:

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/785479437/overview/

or you can get this unicorn (AWD V8) if you stretch the budget:

but really I think we all know the answer is an s197 mustang GT with some bolt ons and making your kids climb into the back past a folded seat is a small price to pay for being fundad :gabe:

Before I throw in my two cents... You looking for "Practical", Sporty, combination of the two? Sounds like you left the field wide open, was this intentional?

That's fair, i was trying to keep as many limitations off as possible but to give you a sense of what I've been looking at for the past week is mostly Subaru's (Outbacks and Legacy's), Accords, Acura TSX, the odd low-mileage civic sprinkled in here and there, silverado's, Tacomas, 4Runner's, Tundra's, F150's, you get the idea. So I like functionality, affordability and trucks.

I listen to Dave Ramsey at work a lot and while I'm not a die-hard of his I do believe in purchasing well below your means, after all money spent on a car payment is money I can't save or invest with. So I can technically afford a more expensive car/truck I just don't want a $500+ car payment every month.

Hence my issue, I would really want a low mile used Tacoma or 4Runner but those just don't exist under $27k from what I can find. The rare one that does mean it has a salvage title or way too many miles on it. I like Subaru's b/c they very functional cars and they're very affordable, I wouldn't be breaking the bank buying a low mile used outback. Ive found some really low mile civics that I could pay off in a year and keep for the next 10 years but ... out of all of the boring cars I mentioned its by far the most boring.

So yeah I just wanted to see what other people would suggest, maybe give me a different view that I hadn't thought of.

So to throw out a basic option that has worked out well for us... we bought a 2016 fusion from JET in March of 2016 for 15k. Had 20k miles on it and checked all the dd boxes for us, leather, heated seats, sync, 35mpg, blue on black. It's nothing special but fun and comfortable enough to drive in the daily back and forth. 3.5 years later it's been issue free and we could sell it at any time and be ahead of negative equity.

On the flip side should you decide to increase your budget I can put you in a white 2017 or 2018 1500 LTZ 4x4 with a 5/100 powertrain for cheaper than anyone in the country.

Don't get a truck or SUV unless you're genuinely going off-road or hauling dirty stuff (yard waste, kids, motorsports equipment, etc). Put a lightweight hitch on the Wrangler and a HF trailer.

1) Get something premium with a stick (Audi, BMW, CTS-V, etc). You will continue to have the most fun and become less bored = keep the car longer.

2) GO BIG.

3) Can't go wrong with Infiniti G's and M's, especially in AWD and possibly a V8...

Q50s you could probably talk down to 15k on a higher mileage 3.0TT V6 AWD basic bolt-ons and a tune and will have you well into the 12s.

3.0tt is 16+ I doubt anyone is getting them at 15k yet, MAYBE next year if you get a super high milage example.

how about taurus SHO or whatever the lincoln equivalent is?
