RIAA wants access to your computer...

it is all a game of cat and mouse. Look at DVD cracking, the haxors beat that. The new OS4 for the iPhone was hacked before it even went public. IF RIAA can get it pushed through, it will take all of 10 minuets after it goes live before there is a work around/Protection/Detector.

Now I am going to go update the firmware on my Cisco (Yes I am that much of a geek, I run cisco at home)

There is a huge difference in what they can do and how well they protect.

out of the box, very true. but if you flash it then you have a ton more capability.

Of course its never going to perform like a true cisco managed device.

Soooo, none of you know how to encrypt a file or folder?

It's time to learn...

Or for fun, make a folder that clearly says music, and put a large quantity of fake files in it of tiny size... all blank or nearly so... all mp3 of course...

Encryption is the name of the game; hidden partitions especially.

Virtual machines that can get can be reset everyday back to a clean image after the downloaded files are moved to a hidden partition.

Using vulnerability assessment tools to keep network and home computers safe will be especially important.

And of course if you're surfing for torrents or music files start with something anonymous and secure (https) and use a proxy.

And naturally, you'll need a good antivirus suite to check the downloaded files.

Of course, this is just hypothetical, because I would never pirate music or movies. :)

if this did happen, i give the pirate-geeks 24 hours before it's circumvented and some counter software put out. the pirate-nerds are better programmers than the govt/RIAA/MPAA anyway, they have basements and an endless supply of hotpockets.

And more motivation!
