Wow.......maybe this thread should be moved to the Off-Topic area? If this were an actual physical display of opinion, brigham would look like a 12 legged turtle with all the footwear hangin' out of his orifices!! :( May have gone over better here if it were a rant rather than sarcastic appreciation for the Duc rider........I waive at most everyone on 2 wheels ( mopeds/scooters excluded ;)) whether they return the favor or not, matters little to me.........the days it does matter to me, just pipe 'em or reconfigure said waive into a single-digit-salute

I always wave to scooters it's funny it throws most of them for a loop and they have no idea what to do.

If you're on less than 4 wheels then you share a common enemy with me. I'll wave.

I'd rather wave at a scooter than a shorts&t-shirt harley rider who looks at my gear, decides he's better than me becusue he's closer to death, and gives me that "WTF are you waving at?" look. If only I had time to repond; "Riding like that you'll be dead soon, and I just wanted the last person you see to be a friendly person."

I waved to someone the same way you waved to the squid on our SEO ride... I laughed pretty hard

after seeing him and jinu do it and dying as i watched it happen, I can agree that its just as funny to do it as it is to see it happen

The 883 Sportster is the only scooter I won't wave to.

I waved at an 883 today on my way to work as I passed them on the right because they slowed from 70-75 to 55 in the left lane of 70W in the curves heading into downtown (by Alum Creek).

That OSHP motorcycle patrol sitting on the fast lane of I-670 today (clocking) would probably say you're both wrong, heh.

oh hey, that OSHP bike got off the freeway with me, so I waved Hi at him...

I got the scooter driver look, like wut? I guess no one waves at him...

hey, this is fun, let me try... Far more fun on the freeway, for me, is playing tag. I sneak up on other bikes, fall in behind them, and start counting to see how long it takes them to see me back there.

Stats: Some see me, some NEVER see me. Which ones? The Harleys? Cruisers? Sportbikes? (Which are indeed much harder to catch in the first place.)

Nope... it's the jokers without the helmets. They just won't move that f'ing head to look around, won't look in the mirrors, nada. It's all about the image, man... gotta be that man...

Yeah... don't ever think I don't see you coming up behind me.

edit: I've also been noticing this year that some riders are wobbling around in the lane like a total fool. I can't figure it out. Like, going around a corner requires taking, how many different lines? Even on the freeway. It's not riding a motorcycle, it's flopping around like a total amateur...

so let me get this straight the duc rider is an ass because he did not wave?

brigham You sir are an IDIOT!

your damn harley is not any better of a bike than my Honda nor any worse.

as for the helmet issue I don't wear mine as much as I should ... but I am getting better.

as for seatbelts I don't/won't wear one Period! (nasty story I will not get into)

but my kids will always have one on.

if you plan to stay around on this forum I'd change my outlook on issues like helmets, gear, medium sized furry animals, online porn, sport bike riders ect..

I guess what I mean is try being a bit more open minded............

Hey, thank you for an enjoyable ride to the VA! I am sure you thought that since I ride a cruiser I had other intentions, but I didn't, I just caught up to you & passed you. What fun though watching you try to catch back up!! Slicing in & out like you're on a race track...I bet everyone was really impressed!! I knew you didn't llike the idea I passed you by the look you gave me through your expensive helmet & "I'm a wanna-be racer" attire. Maybe you will one day just be able to enjoy the ride & the brotherhood shared by bikers...at least I hope so. You see, I ride because it is me, who I am. I ride in the rain, the snow, the heat the cold...all year, as do many of us. I love friendly competition & a little fun, but, if you're going to be a hater....GO BUY A SCHWINN, please.

PS - sorry you got passed up by a little ole 900 Yamaha, it was borrowed from my girlfriend.

I like the way this guy thinks. If I pass someone on my scooter without wearing any safety gear and they don't wave at me........................................................ ................I AM THE COOLEST MOTHERFUCKER ON THE PLANET!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah me.

And as for the no helmet deal, here's a few reasons:

1. Helmets killed 2 of my friends in the last 5 yrs.

2. My cousin was killed by his helmet.

3. While in Sturgis in 2007 (yes, lots of sportbikes now! it's great!!) Iwitnessed an accident. The ONLY person critically injurred & flown out was wearing full gear! He later died. The ppl NOT wearing protective gear were treated on the scene for minor cuts.

4. I don't care if YOU wear a helmet, so don't mind if I DON'T! I would prefer to die free. And since I am not afraid of death, I'm happy. I've experienced so much in life already, so if I die today, I will die happy.

Hey dingle, the helmets didn't kill your friends. If helmets killed that many people you know, it is either a HUGE exception or a large coincidence.

Helmets protect. When people get killed while wearing full gear, it is due in large part to the accident being so severe that no matter what they were wearing, they would have passed. To blame it on gear is about as ignorant a thing I have ever heard.

I have watched a great friend die in front of us after a race crash that ripped his Arai clean off his head. Removed his lower party of his face essentially. His death was not due to that helmet. That crash was due to the blunt trauma he was dealt when he was run over, after impact and the extreme nature of his injuries. The helmet did cause severe trauma, but as I mentioned, it wasn't solely the helmet and it would have happened even if it didn't get ripped off...

In regards to your "wave at me or you are a dick" comment, you really should be quite aware as from your laundry list of owned bikes, a LOT - not all - but a LOT of HD riders will not wave back to sportbike people. A lot. Now, at times, I just don't waste my time as I am at the point that I assume they are going to ignore and not wave so, I don't. Then I feel terrible when they do.

The point is that you really need to stop while you are ahead. You might actually be an OK guy, but at this stage, I am thinking that you are an ignorant guy that has no idea as to why gear is so important and are being very hypocritical. Remember what the HD crowd is like when it comes to being on the other side. You're not helping...

Both of my buddies had their necks snapped from the helmet. They heads were just fine. But cause of death was determined to be from the helmet. My cousin's accident was different. Because he was wearing a helmet, his head became the main projectile. His head got slammed in the car that actually clipped him. EMS crew said that had he NOT been wearing a helmet he would have missed the car completly, the OSP agreed. As for the accident in Sturgis, I think it was over-confidence of having the gear? I dunno. I do know the man had broken bones, head injuries, pretty messed up. Bottom line though, when it is your time to die, you WILL die. Safety gear can't save you then.

Dude, helmets dont snap necks... The impact that causes the head to be bent is what snaps necks. The EMS person is a douche bag IF - IF they actually stated that. I doubt that was the case and you view of what was stated is what you are saying here.

If his helmet slammed into the car, his unprotected head would have hit the car as well. Unless you are talking that the slim amount of larger diameter the helmet was vs his head is the reason he clipped or "slammed" as you say. That then would suggest that he would have missed the car by about an inch and would have tumbled to safety w/o the helmet.

Last I checked, the EMS guys and gals while great folks and have tough jobs, are not CSI certified... His head hit the car and if w/o a helmet, you think he would have not hit the car is silly.

If you stand straight up and fall back without any movement to protect yourself from falling, your head is traveling at about 60 mph before impact. The back of your head is gonna be more than needing a few Advils if that would happen. You can die with a helmet on for sure. And, there are times where I have seen evidence that had the helmet not been worn, they MIGHT have lived. MIGHT. The bottom line is that the one piece of equipment worn vs not worn is a tough thing to prove was the cause. The crash itself has so many variables and complex parts to it that being able to pinpoint one item being the cause is crazy.

The cases you provided are not reasonable and while tragic, had they not hit anything, they would have survived. That is as silly a comment as you saying the helmets killed them...

Why? Because they have a better warranty? High resale value? High level of quality? Did it ever occur to you that not everyone can ride a sportbike??

Dude, you keep digging a grave...

Higher resale? If you are an enthusiast, that should NEVER be a reason to buy a bike. If amongst like machines that you LIKE, maybe a category, but not something that should matter. Unless you are a doctor and wanna be cool like your friends. We don't call those folks enthusiasts. We call them posers...

Better warranty? Really? You need to be VERY careful here... I know a few things about HD and metric as well as other brands and their warranties that are available... HD's are not better... Equal is a great word, but not better. Better than some, but not most to where it is a measuring stick...

Quality? Ok... How do I say this w/o coming off as an HD hater. Quality is where you need to look past the painted pinstripes and look deeper. HD has some seriously old technology. It gets made fun of and is the basis of a lot of jokes, but if you think that is quality, that list of bikes you tallied off is seriously being questioned here. I can take a cruiser from a metric brand and place it side by side and you can CLEARLY see a difference in quality. Now, is it night and day? No. It is the simple and small things. Quality is how things are made, how they are exposed, how they are hidden, how the welds look, how the parts are used, how they are not used, etc. The list is crazy long and HD while good bikes and built OK, are far from being at the top of the list when talking quality.

Again, similar or maybe better than some, but not most and that's where if you say they are better quality, you need to understand the way to measure quality.

Again, stop while you are ahead.
