I'm going to make an assumption here, see that the resident that shot the intruder has medical issues, I'm guessing that someone knew there was a good chance there were prescription drugs in the house. I'm sure that's not the case, but I'm also pretty confident that the intruder did have some way of knowing what meds the guy has, with that being the motive.
