I have never been to the gap ever in my life :( but i know there are plenty of riders here who made the trip several times and rode around the area. Just wanted some suggestions on names/number of your favorite roads you take to reach gap as well as the roads around gap area.

hopefully this helps others as well here goes the

Around Gap - suggestions so far:

  1. 28 south into GA,
  2. Cherehola Parkway
  3. Blue Ride Parkway
  4. 276 south out of Waynesville NC to Looking Glass Falls.
  5. 421 "The Snake" It's another 33 miles and 489 curves
  6. Georgia 60

Some loops:

Whatever Pauly's route for down there is probably one of the better ones

Around there for your first time you must hit 28 south into GA, Cherehola Parkway and Blue Ride Parkway.

28 is hands down my favorite with the Cherehola being a close 2nd. There were a couple other roads I'm not sure the name or the number that we hit last year that I really enjoyed as well

  • 2 weeks later...

From Youngstown I would find 800 and run it all the way to the river, cross on the Sistersville ferry, WV 18 down to US 33, US 33 all the way to the BRP, BRP all the way to the Smokies / Deals Gap.

You can make Roanke VA at the end of Day 1, and knock off the other 300 miles of the BRP on day 2.

With the exception of a small portion of US 33 this is all very nice, twisty, 2 lane; and also excepting US 33 is lightly trafficked.

Once down there, I concur: 441 through the Smokies, 28, Cherohala Skyway, US 19 into GA... hard to go wrong.

Thx meefzah, will definitely chart this if 16 looks horrible, we were looking at 16 all the way, then 421, then brp but 16 surface not ideal most places :( have u been on 16 down south, some say even better than gap with lots of twists and switch backs etc

That is a great route. Did just about the same ride last May, clockwise.

You won't be disappointed.

We need to get together for some neo rides :)

FYI, I believe 441 from Gatlingburg to Cherokee is still closed due to a landslide. If I remember correctly, it was going to be closed for some time. Anyone know anything different?

Thx will avoid that, how's the RT , do you feel the weight at all once we are in the twisties?

I think the RT feels great going through the twisties. I am a pretty aggressive rider, like to wheelie, etc. Going through the Dragon, I am usually not holding up traffic with fully loaded luggage. It's the best all around motorcycle I have ever owned and I have owned a bunch of them. Low center of gravity with the boxer engine.
