I'm obviously biased but grab a 5th gen vfr800 (98 - 01). It a great all around bike. Good for burning twists and then heading for West Virginia for a few days and then back without needing a chiropractor. Its got the gear driven cams so no hassles with the 6th gens sub par cam chain design and no extra tunning needed to smooth out and screw with the vtec. - The V4 sound with a pipe is incredible! Single sided swingarm is there to show off the wheel and it drops off in 5 minute with a lug wrench for tire changes. Engine is bullet proof. Wide mid range power with a good hit on top. If that isnt enuff for ya, there's a super charger kit out there that will boost it to 165hp. I have done quite a few mods, mostly with brakes and suspension - RC51 brakes with Traxxion Dynamics fork mods and have a Penske shock in the rear. NICE! Heres a pic....

I'm an IT dumbass, so what about an Apple Mac? --- I already had a nasty malware attack on my Windows based laptop. Bleah

Harley ride only 5 miles? Sounds like she is just not a bike girl type. If their not into it, their not into it. My ex was that way. I begged her often to come ride with me. When she did, she could only stand 15 minutes and then wanted to go home. Sooner or later it was, screw this, I'm going riding for a long day. Then it was, GF bitching I'm spending more time riding than paying attension to her. Finally a fight - she yells, " you love that motorcycle more than you love me!" My answer - "well, effen absolutely!". She storms outta my house, never to be seen again. Bye GF....

Thats pretty fricken cool.

My roots are in motocross so I am used to being able to go front only or rear only or both. I also didnt like that when you touched the rear pedal you would get some front fork dip. So in the shit can they went. No regretts. -- Admittedly, if the bike was a big ass touring bike I would keep them.

Looking at the likes/dislikes I wrote, its really the same with or without the mods. The except for the brake work, the stuff I changed is fairly standard upgrades anyhoo. Ok - the stockish springs are a bit soft and I dont like linked brakes.

Very cool!

Both are fairly cheap so I guess its mostly up to what you are after, seems like both are a good way to go. I wanted to ditch the hardwire but still have something I could call with for a longish conversations and not burn cell phone minutes. The phone solitcitors were driving me nutz. So, for me the Skype is on only when I want it on. No idiot callers coming in. I did get a lite weight 20 buck headset for the skype, no big deal there. I like that its software based, with no hardware to worry about. Download it on any PC. The way its going, the cell is the primary phone - I'm probly 80% cell calls and 20% skype calls.

My short ride on a Max was like in every corner, the bike felt like it was going - "oh you want me to turn?'....
-
I looked into it. You have to have you PC on 24/7 if you want somebody to call you. I suppose it fits a niche, but I have gone to Skype at $2.99 a month. Its totally anonymous and you have unlimited time. If somebody wants to call me I give them my cell. - I have no hardwire at all.

You might want to look at an older VFR750. They could be had for not a lot of serious cash. Then with a lowering kit and a corbin seat, you might be alright. 5' 2" ?

I used to design airbags for cars. Dunno if I would want to be the foole that is handed the job for motorcycles. I could see it for the big ass tourers. but smaller bikes - yeow!

Number 2 1999 Honda Valkyrie Likes: The engine is a flat 6 and sounds amazing, Porsche like. Smooooth. Its kinda like a frickn huge engine with bike attached. Torque out the wazzzooo. I shift lots of times at 1800 rpm. Not a V2. Still a good looking for a bling bike. 6 carbs Outstanding as the king cruiser, lay back and enjoy. Great for 2 up. The other half, wack the throttle and it moves right now! Shaft drive Still get complements, not bad for a 10 year old bike. Its kinda funky wierd and unusual, rarely see another one. Dislikes Gas milage sucks, about 30 mpg, at about 125 mile on a tank you better be think about a gas stop. Chrome is a PIA to keep clean. Replacing the rear tire is a major ordeal, you have to pull headers/pipes, mucho ass end parts just to get to the wheel. For me, the bike is not really a good long haul ride. All the weight is on your ass and you sit upright. After 1100 - 1200 miles it gets my back aching. Screwing with the windshield - stiil dont have the thing to point that I like it. The wind buffeting just drive me nuts for a trip. - For in town cruising I take it off. Wierd that I bought the thing for long distance touring, but ended up not liking it for that. But its such an outstanding cruiser, I'll never sell. One to go fast, one to go slow. What is it today - Dr. Jekyll or Mr Hyde?

OK I'll bite 1998 Honda VFR800, the short mod list - RC51 brakes, stock brakes delinked, Traxxion Dynamics fork mods, Penske rear shock, carbon pipe, corbin seat. Likes: Great all around sporty bike, not bad for burning twistys, but can go a week in the mountains and not kill you. Its a V4, not an inline 4, sounds like a small block V8 with the pipe. Reliability, havent had to fool with anything. Gear driven cams, dont have to worry about a cam chain. Decent power - I like the midrange and runs solid to redine. No dips or snatchy bottom. Probly could knock out low 11s. Single sided swingarm! Rear wheel drops off in 5 minutes with a lug wrench. Center stand. Great fit and finish. It kinda rare, you dont see too many. Dislikes Um, um..... It tends to run a little warmer than I would like in stop n go traffic. The rear rotor is centered in the middle of the rear wheel, so its impossible to keep clean. Clean it and 50 miles later, brake dust is everywhere again. OK - the dislikes is really a BS list, Chances are I will have a VFR in my garage for a long time. Its the do it all, swiss army knife bike. You could run out to Colorado and be reasonably comfortable and then still hang with the gxsr crowd if you are a good enuff rider.

Yeah - I kinda noticed that the chase bike on the track wasnt working all that hard.
