That makes sense. And I didn't realize you had another bike, I was thinking you were getting out of riding completely for a while. It's not such a bad thing in that case.

Bummer about the need to sell but at least it sold. I hope you did ok with it!

I think that would be the best part!

Speed traps or road hazards warning other riders
wantahertzdonut replied to HeavyDuty's topic in Daily Ride
I'd warn people but I hardly see cops clocking where I ride. Also, I'm usually stuck behind a line of cars driving below the speed limit and so is everyone else, so speeding is rarely a concern. I have been warned by someone doing a wave motion trying tell me of running deer ahead. I thought the guy was just doing something stupid until I came upon the deer. I wish he just tapped his helmet. -
It's coming??? Spring looks to be coming up!
wantahertzdonut replied to smashweights's topic in Daily Ride
Most drivers don't seem to deal well with the snow around these parts either. You'd think they'd be used to it. The lights are reaction to the fact that 4x as many Ohio motorists rear end snow plows than in any of the surrounding states. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/ODOT-snowplow-lights-get-new-look Again, you'd think we'd know how to drive in snow. I'm crossing my fingers for Sunday. I'll have to go get one of my bikes registered. -
I haven't heard that, only people getting their eyes poked by the sides of the glasses after the frames broke.

It is a light prescription. I apparently have astigmatism which is why things are fouled up, otherwise I'd be fine. I have to have at least a year of the same prescription before they'll let me get lasik. I forgot you had that done.

As much as I prefer daylight savings time, getting used to it for the first week while going to work sucks!

I've worn sunglasses for a long time so I don't mind eyewear under my helmet, I'll have to give my real glasses a try in the spring. If it stinks, I'll either go without them or look into contacts. Thanks for the pointers.

That's exactly what they did when I was there in 2011. If I'm laid off by then I may consider it. I'd like to go back there on good tires. But I'll have to see if I want to give my money to STT, I had a rather miserable experience on my last outing with them.

I recently got glasses for the first time in my life and am still adjusting to the thought of wearing them. Then I started thinking about riding with glasses. Do any of you guys wear yours while on the track? I've heard some people raise safety issues with glasses but I've worn sunglasses for years under my helmet since I'm rather light sensitive. And I've had a couple friends get their contacs blown out of their eyes or just very dried out while riding on the street, even with full face helmet. I can still see fine for the most part without them but I'm trying to incorporate them into more regular use. So what do you guys usually do?

Winter riding tips, advice, warnings? Post 'em up!
wantahertzdonut replied to JackFlash's topic in Daily Ride
I wouldn't be bothered by the temps so much since I grew up skiing and snowboarding in sub zero temps, but I worry about sliding on ice. I'd feel eternally stupid if I dumped my bike because I had to get out and ride. About 70% of my riding is commuting to and from work and I ride regularly from April till early November, provided it's above 35deg. Any colder I worry about ice patches. I don't start riding untill it's at least 40 in the spring due to the ground being much colder than in the fall. But I'm getting laid off (hopefully) by the end of April so I'll be doing lots of riding in the mountains out west. I've read many stories about riding over mountain passes and getting caught in snow, so what do you do when things get slippery? -
Wow, that's as bad as my friend's brothers who spent $600 each on those molded earplugs at the Cleveland show. You can go online and get the same thing for 1/4-1/3 the price.

It only works if the dog has a functional brain. I've nailed my neighbor's kickdog with a super soaker when it decided to start coming into my yard to bark at my back window. This went on for weeks and only stopped when I put up a baracade to keep the dog on its property. (There's no fence other than a line of bushes between mine and my neighbor's yards.)

Does BSB have a feed? I don't have cable at all and am going on my 2nd year of MotoGP Videopass. Videopass is live or streaming of everying MotoGP. It's 100 Euros for the all the races, plus all qualifying, Moto2 and 3, and highlights in the offseason. You get the entire 90 minute broadcast of the race too, with the intros and awards ceremonies. They do have videos from testing that are up right now too. I think it's worth every penny. You can sign up for it at Motogp.com. I wish WSBK and AMA had this too.

I must have been weird growing up. I raced R/C cars with a passion and primarily raced on road and dirt courses, and rarely ovals. When they switched road days from Friday to Sunday morning, and Fridays became oval days, I was pretty bored and stopped. I also grew up hunting for NASCAR on tv when it was still rare, but I was blown away when I saw my first GTP race, and nearly abandoned NASCAR for quite a while until I figured out GTP on TV was even more rare than NASCAR back in the mid 80's. (we never had cable growing up). I see what you say about kids not being into bikes though. I grew up seeing them on tv once in a while and it was a novelty at best. I had parents who always badmouthed every rider on the road as putting himself in immediate danger, and that kept me away for a loooong time. I never got much into following MC racing until I was in college and had cable, even then it was spotty since there was so much else going on. But about the AMA, I remember even 10 years ago hearing ads on the radio for the Mid Ohio race and thinking it sounded pretty cool, but never went. Now that I go, there's no advertisement, and the only people there are the ones already in the know. Most of my (riding) friends don't even know Mid Ohio exists.

Speed has been terrible for the last 10 years. I still wish Speedvision would come back. Isn't Speed supposed to turn into NBC Sports 1 or something anyway, and drop all automotive content in favor of more basketball? I've had the MotoGP pass since mid last year and renewed for 2013. It's spendy but for what you get compared to the Speed coverage. I used to go to the bar and have them change the channel for me, so Videopass pays for itself after 4-5 races. It's worth mentioning I don't subscribe to cable so for me it's worth it. I wouldn't mind one bit buying a similar broadcast for World Superbike and AMA. I thought AMA had a web broadcast but I'm not sure. I have to dig through my AMA emails, but does anyone know if something like this exists? I don't see how the AMA can continue its road racing with no tv audience.

Too much salt and way too went to get out till today.

I pit crewed on a team back in 2010 and had a great time. Granted I had a lot more to do since I was behind the scenes getting ready for the races so I was pretty busy. The photos above look like what we had to drive through to get to the track. I was there for the race so the zoo didn't interest me much. The only cute girls were working merch tables at the track, otherwise it was lots of saggy rough skin walking around.

A warm winter's day, road hazards, and the AMA.
wantahertzdonut replied to JackFlash's topic in Daily Ride
No magazine is ever as good as it used to be, and the included roadside assistance is a nice bonus. I'd rather pay $10 extra to the AMA and not have to pay AAA an additional $45. -
No More Saturday Mail...Unless It's a Package
wantahertzdonut replied to BadTrainDriver's topic in Dumpster
Sounds like a good use for electric vehicles if you ask me. I won't mind missing Saturdays, all I get amounts to paper spam anyway. And I'd have no problem going to the local PO to pick up any packages going USPS. -
I have to check out some of the testing footage since I paid for the video pass again. Beween the new riders and some of the top riders changing teams, I hope things will be shaken up a bit. A close season would be nice regardless of who wins. With that said, I'd love to see Rossi in the top 3, with Spies and Hayden turning things around. Hopefully Ducati will get it together ASAP and not design Spies' bike to kill him. Kinda sad to see Edwards so far off pace too.
