  1. I used to do that, but gave up because for the most part drivers would just gave me that dumbass-in-headlights expression and just sit where they were.
  2. I. He was picking up the aftermath as I was coming through the kink. Does anyone know if he rebuilt it? There was talk that he was going to.
  3. Did this happen while riding or just sitting? I bet most of us keep our bikes in the garage and most of our bikes have seen temps below freezing, even below 0. I've never seen this or had it happen to any of my friend's bikes. I'd say bad tire, but they should cover that if that is the case.
  4. Bring at least a gallon of water. You'll need it. I bring a gallon plus half a gallon of Gatorade (buy the powder, make it in a pitcher, it costs nothing that way). A beer for the end of the day is nice too. And you won't be the only toaster there. I've seen at least 2 in the past.
  5. CA just came out with "guidelines" for lane SHARING (sounds a little more positive, eh?) and there is worry among riders this will lead to a ban. Time will tell. I'm all for it personally but suburbanite drivers are too stupid to see oncoming traffic, let alone a motorcycle sharing their lane. I've been tempted to do it on 90 going to work during the morning cattledrive but just didn't get the courage up to do it. I'd like to see a systemwide restructuring of driver's ed and re-education before I'd go full out for land sharing. Too many people behind the wheel that have no business being there.
  6. lol My bike will be ready, it's if I will be ready. I guess that would be the more correct statement.
  7. I plan on going Saturday and may do race school. Not sure yet, depends on if I can get the bike sorted in time (should be ok) and the weather.
  8. I've rode a lot of bikes of varying sizes and based on that, I don't want to be on a heavy bike in wind. A Softail Classic gets pushed as much in a crosswind as a VTR250, but it's much easier to correct a 300lb bike than an 750lb bike. Same as I'd rather correct my 92 Camry vs the 40' Blue Bird bus I drove on Rt. 2 from Toledo to Cedar Point when I drove UT buses. I guess I'm just trying to say crosswinds suck. No matter what you ride.
  9. This was the best race I've seen in years in any racing discipline. We were all screaming at the tv till the checkered flag was flown. I hope this is a sign of things to come because if every race is like this, it'll be some serious fun to watch. If Rossi didn't biff that pass early on, he'd have given Lorenzo a run for first and not just been holding off the Hondas. Notice how Pedo dropped off after Rossi dumped his ass? BTW, buy the video pass. Don't hem and haw. It's money well spent. You'll be happier than you will ever hope to be with Speedtv.
  10. The only uncut feet I know of is buying the videopass and streaming it. It's 100 euros for the season.
  11. I know what I'll be doing this weekend, thank you videopass! I'd like to see 5-6 riders in contention for the championship but it's hoping against hope; it'll only be 2-3. I hope to see Rossi come out of his doldrums but I worry he'll have a big off that'll finish his career. Lorenzo and Pedo will make things difficult for everyone else. Marquez is a wildcard, he can go any number of ways but I don't see him in championship contention for at least a season. It'll be interesting. Maybe Hayden will do something, like top 5, but I can't see much better on the Duc. Same for Spies. Hopefully the Duc won't try to kill him. Why is Edwards just going along for the ride? I can't remember if he was even in contention for the CRT "championship". I want to say not. Maybe WSBK would be better while he's still able?
  12. I just drove the Hwy 1 north of SLO to Big Sur 3 weeks ago and while the road has some high points (awesome hairpins), much of it was chip sealed and unpleasant, roadwise. The views are top rate however. For what it's worth, I'm glad I was in a car and not on my bike. 1) For the distraction of the view and 2) It was windy. Windy enough to make riding very frustrating. I don't know if it's always like that but I was thankful I wasn't even in a convertible that day. I also saw very few bikes; 6 total I think. Maybe just a coincidence (however it was a Sunday, so lots of cars) but one local told me they all go inland to ride hard. Less traffic and even fewer cops that way.
  13. That stinks, here's to a fast recovery. Drink a lot of milk, and try not to sneeze!
  14. WV, of course! I'll believe that when I see it. Of course you're not next to the frozen cesspool-I-mean-Lake Erie.
  15. Looks like what I might be after. I will have to make a trip down depending on the interview I had last week pans out or not.
  16. I've tossed the idea around of messing with an XS850 simply for the noise factor, but prices have been too high on running examples to make it worth chopping up.
  17. Those "concepts" look like parts bin specials. It just looks like they modded production vehicles. But do know I never cared much for jeeps after the AMC era. I'd go for a Wagoneer or the large pickups from the 70's/80's but that's about it.
  18. I don't think $8000 is enough to pay me to even be at Disneyland for 3 hours!
  19. Does anyone in NEO have a Haynes book that covers 2003 GSXR-1000's that I could borrow or at least copy some pages? I have forks to install on my SV but they need seals first. I have a schematic and am ready to tear the things down, but having a walk-through would be nice since I haven't torn down a USD fork before. Plus it would be nice to have torque specs.
  20. Welcome! In near to you as well, in Fairview. I'm usually out riding with friends when the weather cooperates and we'd welcome new riders too. I'm usually at the track and meet up with R1Crusher and RVTpilot when they go too. You won't have any trouble hitching a ride, somebody usually has room. Just be prepared to cuddle and give HJ's.
  21. Are groundhogs worth eating? Good or not, I'd cook the bastard out of spite right now. I'm tired of skiing and want to get on with the nice weather already.
  22. I'm fine riding 2-up on my SV. I have some Givi saddlebags and we were fine even after a 12hr ride around SE OH. I wouldn't blink at the idea of riding across the country on it. I never had a big touring bike and when I rented one, I found it to be a lot more than I needed. I also removed the windshield when I rented. Did anyone read the story of those 4 college kids that rode across the country on a break and the total displacement of all 4 bikes was under 850cc or something like that? I think it was on ADV but I'm not sure.
  23. Just found this, that looks rather painful. Glad you're ok. Any update on the injured passengers? I drove busses at UT and we had a few incidents while I was there, but usually just some blind idiot T-boning a 9' tall blue/yellow/white bus. No injuries onboard.
