  1. I just said I liked that they were putting electronics onto cruisers. It's a cool feature that everybody should take advantage of that can. I've been debating the ABS on my R1, how intrusive is it on the track? Never had a bike with ABS before and figured I'd give it a go at least next season but I'd be really interested in informed feedback. Would be a good area to re-mount my ECU if the pump went away...
  2. Both Moto3 (Honda & KTM motors) and Moto2 (Triumph motors) all teams are using the same basic build, all they can really change is the chassis. Moto2 uses electronics - Triumph tossed those (to a degree) on the new 765 Daytona they just announced. Both of those classes are built to make the real fast and talented guys claw their way to the top, not just arrive there on a golden chariot so to speak. There are some differences in bike performance based on chassis but you don't get the massive power and handling disparities you see in GP between factory teams/manufacturers and satellite teams running older bikes. The GP bikes themselves would be close to unridable without the electronics they have attached as they barely weigh more than the Moto2 bikes and they make almost twice the horsepower, it's really pretty nuts. And like I said, there are rider specific reasons for not wanting electronics active on a bike but the argument that electronics make people worse riders or have less skill is not really relevant. They are becoming a necessity and they will only become more prevalent in the future with full electric bikes. I would not be surprised if manufacturers ended up with one bike model for each riding discipline using the same ECU/electric motor, but you paid to unlock features/more power/etc, kind of like Tesla.

Dyno tune finalized on the R1 by Jake at The Dyno Shop in Powell (seriously, go here if you need any tuning or really any work done to any bike - yes, even Harleys). 184 rear wheel horse ponies (170 stock), 79.6 ft lbs of torque. Fueling mapped. Spark angle mapped. Throttle position mapped throughout the rev range and for each gear to give a more linear progression/feel - this fixes the "snatchy" throttle people dislike on the newer Yamahas. A couple different power modes have been applied, but in general, mode A is going to be where this bike lives. Took the bike for a little test ride today just to make sure throttling felt good. This bike never stops pulling... Most importantly though, I fit on this bike. The seat and tank give me all kinds of room to stretch out and tuck in, it's really pretty amazing. I can even lock my legs into the tank like 99.9% of the rest of the motorcycling world, this is a new thing for me since my legs have been too long to actually lock in on any other bike so far. Feeling comfortable on a bike is a large part of going fast on that bike. I'm looking forward to getting to the track in the spring to really get a feel for the new blue beast.
  4. The idea that electronics and rider aids take away from skill is pretty stupid, especially for street riding. Even if the electronics/abs add just a tiny margin of safety over not having them, it may be the difference between avoiding a situation or getting caught up. On the track, there's an argument to be made for not running TCS/lift control/slide control/abs/etc depending on the feedback the rider is used to/wants from the bike but none of those things should matter on the street. Any advantage you can get to avoid any of the common causes of accidents should be utilized. Staying upright and happy trumps any ego trip from having no built-in safety mechanisms on the bike. On that note, I think it's great that Indian is getting into this stuff. Cruisers need to keep up with the times and they seem to have realized this.

  8. R1 got sent to the shop today. Got some baseline dyno pulls, and a flashed dyno pull. Exhaust and full tune happening tomorrow or Monday. Will have to see where we end up.

    New Fireblade should be announced soon. Supposedly making some pretty good numbers. People are claiming close to 200 wheel horsepower after getting rid of all the bullshit emissions stuff on the 2020 R1 as well. 😂 @jacobhawkins going to wheelie past him on the straight on his superbike daytona build 😎. I owe him some harassment too now that I'm on a big boy bike.
  11. Put new race rearsets on grom last night to replace the smooshed ones from my crash a couple weeks ago. Shifting is a lot crisper and so is the brake pedal - an added bonus is extra ground clearance for cornering vs the stock pegs. A good upgrade in general. Only downside is the grom was a little upset with me for crashing it and cut my arm to ribbons over the course of the work
  12. Realistically with a decent tune, you could smooth that torque curve out all the way from peak at 3200 to 6200 or so. That's a pretty wide range to be sitting at the top end of your torque. If the new engine looks anything like that it's going to be a real beast. It's interesting it makes power all the way to redline, but I guess it doesn't rev out much past where it starts to drop off so...

  15. New exhaust on the way for the R1. Found a smokin' deal on a Hindle 3/4 system plus the servo buddy and block off plates needed. Might even get a free windscreen. Yay Ebay.
  16. Next weekend saying it will be in the 60's. If it's not freezing ass cold and it's not in the shop getting um... beefed up a bit, I may take the R1 out.
  17. Oil change on the new ride. Tested out wheelie control up to triple digits, found out it will float the wheel even through shifts. Wheeeee

    The biggest reason I went with the R1 was the amount of room on the bike. It feels a lot more spacious than any of the other 1000's except maybe the newer CBR1000's. The electronics kit on the R1 is miles ahead of everything except the 2020 S1000RR though according to everything I've read. Oh and that crossplane sound...

  20. The R1 came with what seem to be pretty much brand new Michelin PR5's but I'll be replacing them with Dunlops. Front: 120/70/17 Rear: 190/55/17 $200? $300? $400? $1,000,000? Any takers?

    Yeah I wasn't sure on pricing, I listed it to be in line with other street triple R's for sale in the area. I ended up getting essentially my final asking price as trade-in value towards the R1 so I figured why the hell not.

    2016 R1 with 4,000 miles. Going to keep street legal for the occasional ride but I plan to have it at the track often.
