  1. Safest bet for hauling a bunch of gear with a smaller bike would be a sidecar. They're popular overseas with scooters and little bikes, but can be pricey unless you've got a GOOD fabricator connection. Geometry needs to be on point or you'll constantly fight with it. Basic framework with a motorcycle fender, a rear coilover shock, a trailer hub and wheel, and a truck toolbox mounted = storage galore. If you hate the thought of riding rigidly upright, there are "leaners" too. Of course, all sidecars limit your lane position freedom and you always need to be mindful of how much wider this would make the bike. Ultimately, if you plan to pack enough to be self sufficient for weeks at a time....get a Wing and a trailer
  2. Surgery? Bottle of shine, hacksaw, a blowtorch, and this can be done 1800s style on the cheap
  3. Not near as much as my right leg does. I bet if I hack it off at the hip, I'll be down a good 50-60 pounds. I dont use my bike's rear brake anyway

    ABS or Pass?

My GT is the first bike I've ever owned with ABS, but I'm glad it's there for a time I may need it AND have it. ABS is sort of like steering dampers in the respect that you dont need it until after you already needed it.
  5. Oh yeah, forgot this is a volunteer event. Is it just for the one day, or do you need folks to help collect on other days too? I'd be willing to help where I can
  6. Excellent price point for a well loved and equipped FZ. Somebody needs to nab this up. GLWS Dice
  7. If the shed is going to sit on runners on top of the pad, then a little overhang front and rear doesn't matter much. But if it's too narrow to support the outside edge runners, the framework would likely warp over time. Hopefully the mfg's recommended size is a couple inches bigger than needed

    New Bike!

Nice find! I've heard the FZ's are great do-all bikes. Bring it to the Epic Ride, then to the Gap in June
  9. Or all the inattentive shitbags that cant keep the car in it's lane with their knee because both thumbs are busy posting bs on facefuck, or twatter, or where ever else they're trending at the moment
  10. It's almost sickening. A loaded 35 ton 18 wheeler has monstrous mass, and can crush multiple vehicles. That is one hell of a deadly weapon to be driving around like a douche. Hopefully ODOT will continue to crack down more and more since the transportation enforcement focused addition to the OSP.
  11. Of course, none of this is proven fact. To me it's just the way things seem to have developed in the last 15 years or so. Our customer base has grown tremendously via easterner owned trucking companies and drivers, but they seem to be the biggest problem we have when it comes to old junk trucks, barely legal, staying on the roads and accident involvement. But these numbers could be due to the bigger percentages of them driving here now days vs American driver's who know/respect the law
  12. I dont seen trucks convoy nearly as much anymore. Just too many drivers out there from other countries that try and squeeze in as many runs as possible before their DOT log mandates a break. So if they can run 75mph+ then they just might have enough time to nab another load before they have to shutdown. Boils down to greed vs safety or fuel conservation. Not sure if company's still offer fuel bonuses or not, but the way some drivers roll it's likely more fortuitous to speed and drive like assholes instead of mediating fuel consumption. Sadly, trucking is one of the highest paying jobs pursued by fresh off the boat, non-english speaking, immigrants.
  13. Exactly. Or all three lanes have a semi roadblock, running parallel, slowing everyone down. I hate following or getting stuck next to them too. I've been known to berm past trucks. Like Tim said, a recap blows apart at 125psi - if you're next to it or behind it, it's deadly for bikers. I've seen the aftermath of one that dropped it's tie rod too. It istantly hooked left and smeared 2 cars into the K-rail. Unreal the amount of maintenance that a lot of owner/ops neglect. We see some dumb shit come into the shop that driver's should have common sense enough to fix, but common sense hasn't been common in eons.
  14. These are my same habits. 10-20 over the rate of other traffic, ride in the left lane, with frequent mirror checks for any dumbshits closing in. I'm always aware as possible of my surroundings on the roads. I try to stay out of others' way, if not for safety's sake, then just out of courtesy. If someone flys up on me, I'll move over or blast away from them until it's safe to merge out of their way.
  15. It's called "the getaway"
  16. Huge downer losing a pet. Sorry for the loss, Jim. A new pup does help ease the pain though
