Happy Birthday! Any special plans for the day?
-
I have purchased 3M automotive tape from Autozone. Comes in a roll. Works quite well.

Sorry to hear you lost part of a finger. That really sucks. We had a family catastrophe where this happened twice! First, my uncle lost two fingers to the first knuckle with a wood chipper when he tried to pull some debris away from the bottom of the shute where the chips exit. A stick cam free and shot a chunk of wood through his leather gloves. The same year my father-in-law lost fingers to the first knuckle sticking his hand in a snow thrower to clear the shute. Just goes to show this shit can happen at any time to anyone! Hope you heal up soon.

What worked for me was making a trip to the Iron Pony and trying on everything they had and then slimming down the choices based on my purchasing criteria, price, fit, ratings, etc. Once you figure out what you are looking for, you can look it up online for the best price. That way you have your size and fit figured out already. I ended up with a Shoei GT Air. I know most HJC helmets will be in your price range as well as some others. I owned a few HJCs and never had any complaints.

04 Gen 1 Skunk! Love the FZ1 so much that when I wrecked my 05 last year, I went to Indiana to get another one! Ivan's Jet Kit Delkevic Carbon Fiber Exhaust Tinted Windscreen OES Frame Sliders

Good to hear everything is ok. Any time you put her down and are able to get up with minor damage to you and the bike is a good day in my book! Everyone goes down at some point. Best thing to do is get back on the horse and keep riding!

Welcome to the OR fellow NEO rider!

I have seen some Gen1 FZ1's (01-05) selling for around $2600 - $3500 if he can scrounge up a little more cash. I have also seen plenty of that year Z1000 for about the same price range. Both are great bikes!

^^How about softscrub and a scotch pad?

I usually wet wash with a sponge and a rag(no hose) and dry. Then finish with Honda polish (The Original). If the bike is really trashed I use Bike Brite with the pressure washer or hose. I don't use full pressure with pressure washer as you could force water into seals or areas that shouldn't see water. The pressure washer can also bend the fins on the radiator in a flash, so you have to be careful! I seem to remember a thread on cleaning the bike a while back. You may want to search for it. It has some good info on cleaning the bike and what everyone uses.

Helmet Transition Lense Sheild VS Built In Sun Visor
Wolfman1 replied to Wolfman1's topic in Daily Ride
I love the look of carbon fiber, very nice! Never heard of an iridium lens, I will have to look that up. -
My bike is carbureted, so if I don't ride the bike for a while I have had issues with the ethanol causing the pilot jets to clog. I run Yamalube fuel stabalizer in my last fill up before I park it. Haven't had a problem since. There are Ethanol free gas stations located across the state. Look them up on the Internet. I have one about 30 min. from the house. I fill all my fuel jugs for the mowers and trimmers with Ethanol free gas.

Helmet Transition Lense Sheild VS Built In Sun Visor
Wolfman1 replied to Wolfman1's topic in Daily Ride
Nothing beats the blacked out look of a helmet with a tinted visor. I have worn my tinted visor like you have for years and never switched it out at night. I could see ok enough to get home. Got ribbed by everyone for not switching over to a clear lens. I live in the boondocks, no streetlights, so riding home from a late ride with no other riders or cars in front of you to light the road ahead does suck! So I decided when I buy a new helmet, to get one with the sun visor. Now I have a Shoei and I love it. Use the visor all day and at dusk flip it up. Works great and safer too! -
Ok, now that Shoei has released a photochromatic shield, I was wondering what the general OR consensus is regarding what you all prefer on your helmet. I personal love the drop down sun visor in my Shoei. It beats having to carry a clear and tinted shield with you each ride or wear the tinted all the time which makes for a fun ride home in the dark. Riders discount listed it at $169.99. That is kind of a hefty price for me, but when you are talking about safety and having clearer vision in the sun, it's a mute point. I wonder if Shoei will start selling their helmets with this lens right from the factory?

I agree with everyone, I have slowed the pace in these areas even though I have the road memorized. My accident has helped with this also. I have had too many close calls with animals, cars, gravel, etc. Recently I had a guy in a truck backing a trailer into a driveway in one of those blind turns on 83. He basically had both lanes covered. I wasn't riding that hot into the turn, so when I exited I was able to slow enough to miss the guy. Had the same thing happen on 78 when a tractor with a plow that took up the whole lane pulled out in front of me exactly when I exited a blind turn and had to all but lock it up to get stopped. That was a coal making moment for me!! The bottom line is to know the roads and set the pace accordingly. Like IP stated, its not a race, the track is the place to see how big your balls are!

October can be shaky weather wise. My vote is for the third or fourth weekend in September. This is nuts, after last winter, I don't want to think about fall or I will have a heart attack!!

TSC has ShelterLogic 10x10 for $79. I have a 10x12 EZ Up I bought from Kmart about 5 years ago and we love it. I think I paid $90 on sale. Fits perfectly over 2 tables and chairs for parties. Just a word of wisdom. Don't set on up too close to a fire. The updraft of the fire sends embers into the air that eventually fall away from the fire landing on the roof. My buddy set one up at a pig roast and the next day it looked like someone shot a round of buckshot through the canopy. Lol!

IP, I was thinking the same thing. What if you move Mr. Squidly's shit out of the way so someone else can use the bay and something gets damaged or misplaced, now you are liable because it happened on your property. The tools thing is something that came to mind as well. It has taken me years to build up my toolboxes and I will not loan them out to just anyone so they can be abused. Unfortunately, there are a lot of idiots who would take advantage of borrowing tools and fucking something up. Hey, I just had a brain dump! What if you take the same concept as a lube stop and market it strictly for motorcycles? First come, first served! Pull in, get an oil change, fluids checked, air cleaner, tires and pressures checked and then out the door. Just basic maintenance. Open seasonally. In the off season you could promote longer projects like clutches, motor work, forks, etc.

Most of the guys I ride with are downshifting and engine breaking. Once in a while you will see break lights when rolling at a hotter pace. It would be quite confusing to see brake lights blinking on and off every time someone downshifts. As stated above, this could cause people to brake check unnecessarily while riding in a group. Now if you ride solo a lot, I could see this working for you as it makes the bike more visible to a car trailing behind. Maybe if the manufacturers actually start making bikes with this option, they will give you a switch that can turn it off when riding with a group.
