Glove recomendations request - warm weather street and track days
Killer_kaw replied to Rodehard's topic in Tech and Tips
I hadn’t either till one day at pony I decided I was buying a nice pair of gloves. The lady at the counter recommended them and they feel great. -
Guessing all that hardware on the front end will be all the wheelie control you need.

I’m a big fan of Five gloves. -

Made it down on 3 different bikes inside a years time. They were all just as fun as the next. Even the mean streak wasn’t bad once I got use to that damn scraping sound.

You know you’ll try to get a knee down on every on ramp.

2017 started a little rough for me. Had to get a few more stents to keep the ticker going. Some good weather early and a couple group rides really started the season off great though. I bought two bikes early in the season and after some restoration I rode them both to the gap. I had a lot of fun with those bikes then sold em both and picked up the Connie I’d been wanting. It was my first year riding with some of the crowd here and it’s been great to meet some other riders that like to get out and put the miles on. Put on a total of about 13,000 miles this year. Hoping 2018 will be more of the same. Already have a trip to the gap and Florida planned for June.

Sounds like you fellas gear up the same as I have in the past. The jacket that’s giving out on me is very similar to what @2talltim is talking about. Waterproof proof vented shell and zip out thermal. Guess it’ll be a good year to replace it. I wear TCX gore Tex boots and that’s what made me think of gore tex. Those things are awesome.
-
^^ Pretty much what I’ve done in the past as well. Zippers have about had it on the textile jacket now soo..... I’ve got a couple decent leather jackets but I’m not so sure about leather and a long trip. That stitch would be nice but $$$$. Just wondered what’s worked well for others.
-
I’m curious what gear others wear for a week or so trip and why. Leathers? Textile? Mesh? Gore Tex? I’ll be spending the better part of 2 weeks in June on the bike. To the gap and on to Florida so I wanna pack as light as possible. Unfortunately flip flops, shorts and a wife beater just won’t do.

That equipment is starting to look serious. When’s the bar open?

Some folks are very efficient at driving the economy one “ bolt on” at a time. Gotta get the bling on for the monthly pirate night.

If you have the time there’s a lot of excellent road along the way. 16 south of beckley through hungry mother park was awesome and the ride down through hot springs was epic. Been down 3 times in a little over a year and not the same way twice. Slabbing the whole way was my least favorite but as @what said it’s the fastest. It would be a long trip taking the scenic rout in one shot for you. Your a good couple hours further north than me.

Definitely a different animal. That guide should help a lot.

Oxfords work great and shut themselves off if you forget. Some folks complain the sports are to hard but they make a few others that are a little softer. Install is pretty easy.

I have no experience with slab sides but lots of tuning on the zrx’s. When tuning those a cruising speed stumble is usually solved by adjusting the mixture screws or a larger pilot jet. Throttle response stumble when opening it up usually requires richening the main jet by raising the needle(lowering the clip on the needle). Or a larger jet. Could be apples to oranges comparison on carbs. Sounds lean though

Trying to decide between H2 SX SE and a new 16 H2
Killer_kaw replied to cOoTeR's topic in Daily Ride
Definitely gonna be heavier. 10r is under 400# dry and the new kawi right at 500# dry. Looks like your to big differences are gonna be comfort and power delivery. If the sx se is anything like the rest of kawasaki “based on” motors then it should deliver power like your Connie did, mostly in the middle. If your more into the way the 10r pulls I’d bet you’d be happier with the leftover. Just my 2 cents. -
If I dive into the valve adjustment over the winter odds are good I’ll add the Rostra. $250-$300 seems reasonable. Shouldn’t be a bad install with all the plastic out of the way. The unit is a universal automotive type that plenty of folks have adapted to the Connie. It controls speed by way of the bikes speed sensor wire. Could most likely be adapted to a ST3 as well @Pauly
-
Nope. Aftermarket does have some options though. Throttle locks or Rostra electronic cruise control. I was thinking of a Rostra unit but I tend to avoid 4 lane roads if at all possible.
-
Half a day of work and half a day of twisty two lane is pretty damn nice for the first weekend in December. High 40 and low 50 degree weather is perfectly comfortable on the Connie.
-
Looks like I’m pretty much out for this. Gotta be in Florida the same week. Plan is to join a few friends headed to the gap the week before and spend a few days in the area. Hope to ride into Florida on the 17th. Would like to stay in Townsend Friday or Saturday night on the way back and maybe head north with some OR folks back to ohio.

‘‘Tis the season. The colder it gets the more it seems I try to do my part boosting the economy

Update..... I got my seat and backrest back from Terry and couldn’t be happier with his work. Very nice job. I’ve also had the ecu flashed and the difference in throttle control is night and day, shifting is much smoother and the added engine brake makes shuffling through the quick and tight stuff much better for me. Gives the bike a much more sporty feel.
-
That sounds correct. He said it was the evo with a little engine brake added and a reduction for the first 10% of throttle. He's calling it the Mountain Runner flash. Suppose to smooth it out some more in and out of the twisties compared to the evo with the same hp&tq gains, fuel economy and throttle control. Smoothing it out was the reason I wanted the flash. Steve said he wanted to offer the new flash because he would be bringing it to market very soon. That guy really seems to know what he's talking about. Can't wait to get it back.
-
Yep. Asked for the evolution flash but Steve called me and suggested his new flash that he just finished up.
