Sorry I wasn't getting updates for this thread for some reason. Yeah we named him ruger and he's a little shit. Cries and howls all night in his cage. He's smart tho, picks up commands fairly quickly and is taking to house training ok....and he's my little buddy.

Oh and congrats brian.

Try throwing an old used/worn t-shirt with your scent on it in his cage at night.  He'll be comforted a bit by your smell and it helps bond him to you as well.  Even better if you can bring the crate in your bedroom so he's sleeping near "his pack'….

 

Socialize him right when he's young and he won't have any separation issues later when you need to leave him alone in the house.

Tried both of those ideas already with no affect.

We are socializing him tho. Visitors, puppy school, visits to neighbors and friends....

And if you can avoid engaging with him while he's whining, that will help too. Only acknowledge him when he's quieted down if you can.

Congrats, he's adorable :)

Doing this too, he's not getting any better. Yes he's very cute, that's what's kept him out of the river so far.
