The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Apparently, I don't qualify.  Although I am old, I am neither distinguished nor a gentleman.

That, and I don't want to hack off the front and rear fenders of my WeeStrom so I can call it a 'bobber'….

If anyone is willing to lend me their classic, impeccably restored Ariel Square 4 for this event, please PM me early enough so that I may at least grow a bushy beard.

this is from there website :(

I don’t have a Café Racer, Bobber, classic, retro or custom bike. Can I take part?

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is specifically for these types of bikes as it is a piece of theater as much as it is a ride. The specific, niche look of the bikes matches the ‘dapper’ theme. If you don’t have one of the bikes described, you can always help in other ways, such as with fundraising. We do apologize but ultimately opening the events to the broader 2 wheeled community would be unmanageable.

It means I can't participate this year, but I think theirs is a fair policy and they explain the rationale better than I could have.  Next year I hope to have my CB77 ready to go.

Sounds like pompous bullshit to me.

Vs. riding more HP than you can legally exercise on U.S. roads just for the fun of it?

It's just cosplay for the heck of it, man - different strokes for different folks - no different than dressing up like a pro racer wannabe or a pirate or Ewan McGreggor.

wtf is cosplay?!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosplay

Basically going to a convention dressed as a character is costume play.  Going to a party in an outfit is kind of watered down costume play.  Same with wearing lots of sports memorabilia or dressing up in period costume before riding a motorcycle.

So basically the nerds try to make themselves feel better making up a word and trying to make it stick to other normal everyday type things?

Hard pass

I suppose, but with a more playful and less mean-spirited attitude about it.
