ok seriously though. you want something that covers the ankle and somethign that will not fly off in a crash. go to iron pony and look around or something, like wnaplay said, they have lots of selection.

whats your beef with boots? do you not like how they look? they not fit you right?

remember, this is why you want boots:

I cant ride with boots, its uncomfortable, and impairs my shifting and just doesnt feel right. I also think that I have worse things to worry about when I go down.

These are my fav shoes to ride in on the street:

Both have 0 ankle support.

Puma has those ducati shoes that I wouldnt mind riding in, but they are pricey, and I dont own or support ducati.

if you can ride with boots dont ride. fuck try riding a bike with a motorcross boot, then you'll love regualr boots.

I always wear my timberlands when i ride. professional series with steel toe.

lol mx boots suck....theyre nice for when you drop the bike on your leg though, saved me twice

I always wear boots. I like them for support/traction but it's also nice to have something guarding my shins from rocks and other debris. I had trouble shifting on the Buell at first because my other boots were a little thick but I swapped on some lower pegs and adjusted the shifter location a bit and it's just fine now.

I used to wear Rocky Alphas but I got tired of lacing them so I went to Bates Ultralight side-zips and they're great. I like that they are supportive but not super heavy and comfortable enough to wear around work and such all day. Also I like that they look just like normal boots really so I don't feel I look like a douche wearing them around when I'm not on the bike (no more than usual anyway :)). They have a nice "built-up" area in front of the heel on the bottom so that they don't snag on my pegs much either.

Bates Ultra-lites: http://www.copquest.com/47-1000.htm

Although you can get them at Anderson's or similar stores locally for about the same money (~$80).

IMO its uncomfortable because you havent ridden WITH them enough. if you have some motorcycle specific boots, they will not impair your shifting at all.

those shoes you posted, they will be the very first thing to fly off in a crash.

(also, dont go left of center)

you may have more important parts to worry about when you go down indeed, but feet are not to be neglected. when that shoe comes off, and then your foot goes into the chain or the bike slides across your foot... do a google image search for "foot degloving" and see if thats a scene that you want to be a part of... they could rebuild it like this guy:

zero ankle support is not something you want either, its easy to end up like that guy in the sidi picture above your post, with his bone sticking out of his leg...

just wear the gear damnit.

I think boots are just extremely uncomfortable and I've never put on a pair of boots I liked on my foot.

I have no problem at all with ankle high shoes, as that is all I wear, they cover all of my ankle.

I don't give two shits what I look like, so that's not the problem, it's just the feel of them on my feet. Heavy, clunky, just don't like them.

I also won't wear anything on a bike that's not covering my ankles and have some sort of support for them.

those shoes wouldnt be bad. sidi is pretty much the shit. i have a pair of sidi boots that look almost identical to those shoes, but they are taller. they were sort of uncomfortable to walk in the first day i had them. once i broke them in, they are money. comfortable as hell. if you are going to be doing a lot of walking, or riding to work or whatnot, another option is to put your regular shoes in a tank bag or backpack... i usually do that when its raining, since my boots are waterproof.

take a trip down to iron pony and you can try a few on and see what you like :)

for a track day i think they only require something that covers the ankle. a full boot is usually preferred, but i dont know if its mandatory. may be mandatory for intermediate or advanced group... it would probably depend upon the org. thats running it.

the other thing though, your leathers may not go all the way down to your ankle. they usually stop a little above your ankle, and the boot covers the rest.

Yeah I would prefer a full boot for a trackday, which is why i edited my post.

Agreed. First thing that happens in most wrecks is knuckles hit and shoes fly off. Get used to riding with boots. At the very least pick up some casual riding shoes from Icon, etc. They are a good compromise between protection and comfort.

Forget wrecking, ever seen a chain snap at 100mph? Ever seen someone stop at a light only to get their shoelace caught on a peg when trying to put a foot down?
