I also think that I have worse things to worry about when I go down. I like them for support/traction but it's also nice to have something guarding my shins from rocks and other debris. I had trouble shifting on the Buell at first because my other boots were a little thick but I swapped on some lower pegs and adjusted the shifter location a bit and it's just fine now. I used to wear Rocky Alphas but I got tired of lacing them so I went to Bates Ultralight side-zips and they're great. I like that they are supportive but not super heavy and comfortable enough to wear around work and such all day. Also I like that they look just like normal boots really so I don't feel I look like a douche wearing them around when I'm not on the bike (no more than usual anyway ). They have a nice "built-up" area in front of the heel on the bottom so that they don't snag on my pegs much either. I have no problem at all with ankle high shoes, as that is all I wear, they cover all of my ankle. I don't give two shits what I look like, so that's not the problem, it's just the feel of them on my feet. Heavy, clunky, just don't like them. cptn janks Posted August 10, 2009 Report Share Posted August 10, 2009 those shoes wouldnt be bad. sidi is pretty much the shit. i have a pair of sidi boots that look almost identical to those shoes, but they are taller. they were sort of uncomfortable to walk in the first day i had them. once i broke them in, they are money. comfortable as hell. if you are going to be doing a lot of walking, or riding to work or whatnot, another option is to put your regular shoes in a tank bag or backpack... i usually do that when its raining, since my boots are waterproof. take a trip down to iron pony and you can try a few on and see what you like for a track day i think they only require something that covers the ankle. a full boot is usually preferred, but i dont know if its mandatory. may be mandatory for intermediate or advanced group... it would probably depend upon the org. thats running it. the other thing though, your leathers may not go all the way down to your ankle. they usually stop a little above your ankle, and the boot covers the rest. The boots were $75, and the pants were $60. Agreed. First thing that happens in most wrecks is knuckles hit and shoes fly off. Get used to riding with boots. At the very least pick up some casual riding shoes from Icon, etc. They are a good compromise between protection and comfort. Forget wrecking, ever seen a chain snap at 100mph?
