pontiacfreak142 Posted February 25, 2011 Report Share Posted February 25, 2011 i Have only written a front plate ticket 1 time.. why? the guy was a prick.. driving a hummer doing 18 over in a 55.. i walked up and he started some crap about isnt it a law you have to wear a hat when out of your car.. blah blah.. i asked him why he didnt have a front plate on.. he said never had one i asked.. plan on putting one on.. Nope.. he said.. Okay then.. i wrote him for speed and the plate.. Moral of the story "dont be a dick" well at least he was being honest lol. I would probably have done the same (without being a prick about it though). It would be my luck that i would tell you some bs story about why i dont have and that im putting it back on when i get home, then run into you again a week later... Law enforcement is fighting it hard again this time. They are saying all the new license plate readers they are having put on the cruisers use the front plate as a target, as well as the back plate. That removing it would mean they would only be able to check vehicles heading the same direction as the cruiser. And the Timothy McVeigh story has come up again also. We only got him because he was stopped for a front plate violation (while its great he was caught, that story gets old when told over and over again as a reason not to drop the front plate) Anyway, thought some may like to see the link to the actual legislation. Police can and do run your plate all the time. Next time you drive by a cruiser from any dept with cameras on it, you're results will have already been scanned by the computer for violations including expired tags. Presumption of Innocence only applies if you're being accused of a crime. Obviously if an LEO is simply scanning a publicly displayed license tag which has no expectation of privacy attached to it, then you're not being accused. He/She is simply doing their job.
