verse
Last time I checked, most wives wouldn't consider 288 hp underpowered. It's a crossover, who cares. When you're talking about a 2 1/2 ton vehicle, it sure feels quite under powered. I've done more 3.6 timing chains than I care to count and broken the cases on plenty of trans. When it looks like a turd and drives like a turd, it's probably a turd.
Trouble Maker
No, I didn't drive it. I was considering the TL for me as a daily driver. I offered to buy both the MDX and the TL together as a "package deal." Have you driven one? In all likelihood, I will not buy a TL, but I might still test drive one anyway. Ya, worth test driving, if you are already at an Acura dealership for the MDX. But if it's something you're not really interested in I wouldn't push you to go drive one otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it when I drove it, but it just sounds like you're not all that interested unless it's getting you a good package deal. Quick enough for a DD, I think, and handles really well too. I guess it would be nice to only have to deal with 1 dealership for your DDs. If you are looking at car's like the S5, the TL is just a different (less expensive) car.
hpfiend
I test drove the MDX and didn't notice anything unusual. In fact, I very much enjoyed it - rode more like a sedan, sits up high enough to make you feel like you're in an SUV but not so high as to make you think you'll topple over going around corners. I wasn't overly impressed with the power, but then again it's for the wife so that doesn't matter all that much. I made offers to buy both the 2011 MDX and the 2012 TL. They didn't accept them. At one point, the salesman did the whole "let me show you how little money we're making" on the MDX. I asked to see the paper, wrote "John's Bank Account: -$XX,XXX" and said, "Here's how much money I'd lose on this deal." The salesman did not know what to say to that. So, don't think I'll be buying from Acura of Columbus. Will likely check out Lindsay. Like I told the salesman at Acura of Columbus - I'm not in any dire need to buy a vehicle today. It's always a buyer's market. [\QUOTE] Don't expect much better results negotiating at Lindsay Acura- it seems as if it is not a buyers market at local acura dealers- at least when I was in the market last year around this time. And yes our RL is the new vomit collector sa well- make sure you get kickmats and all weather floor/trunk mats whatever you end up with. I'd have the seat protectors as well as those seats when properly fastened crease the #%@# out of leather seats but most of the reviews say that they are not safe for your kids. The crease in my c5z just recently worked its way out and I haven't had a kid in there in over a year.

Yeah, at this point, it would have to be an incredible deal on something like a TL to make me go with it as my DD. I think I've pretty much made up my mind as to what I'm going with in that department. I will likely just resolve the SUV situation for Ashley first though. kirks5oh
definitely get good floormats throughout the vehicle. we have husky car liners on the inside of the wife's caddy---they hold up extremely well, and have raised edges so that spilled liquids won't go into the carpet. forgot to add that in addition to ramming the local mcdonald's drive thru post, my wife has managed to close the garage door into the open liftgate twice (my boy hit the garage door button the second time), and we had some random bitch ram us while we were parked at a gas pump filling up. if you have multiple kids, i would vote for something with 3 rows, and 2 dvd players. when the kids go in my cts-v or my exploder, they're all sitting right in a row, and constantly fuck with each other--making for a miserable trip anywhere. in the wife's truck, the girls sit in the rear bench, and are far enough apart they can barely reach each other. my boy gets to ride in the second row captain's chair, so they can't mess with him. with 2 dvd players, everyone can watch a dvd. Agreed with everything you've just said. An optional third row of seats was one of the necessities for the SUV. The MDX provides that. Porn is so much easier on a tablet isn't it :fuckyeah: First there were porno mags. And that shit was awesome. Then there was VHS - holy fuck, you mean I can actually watch a movie of porn? Then there were DVDs - holy fuck, you mean I can just fast forward at light speed through the scenes with the ugly chicks? Then came the Internet. And our wrists have yet to recover. Then came smart phones and tablets. Holy fuck, this is like having a mini-laptop in my bathroom - PURE GENIUS.
Got-Boost?
If you have more than two kids, I wouldn't recommend an MDX until they are out of car seats and more towards boosters. Otherwise, you've got to constantly rip out a car seat so they can access the back (unless they climb over EVERY time). Even then the third row is fine for a kid but would be punishment for an adult. At that point I would look at Tahoe/Escalade, etc. in the next class. Then again, you are talking a tank/bus to haul everyone around at that point... nurkvinny
How did our parents haul us around before there were SUVs the size of tanks? :dumb: Crammed asses to elbows. Seriously though, I used to think the same as you. After the holidays hauling around the wife, 3 kids, and all of their shit, I am thinking of going to a Yukon XL or an older suburban. I thought the Equinox was as big as we would ever need. Then I thought the Grand Caravan was huge. Now the 3-row Tahoe is looking small. Trouble Maker
Well for one thing they didn't have these huge carseats and seatbelts were optional. Not that I am advocating something different... I get that things are different now in many respects, that being one of them. I get the idea of, if you can have a more comfortable situation, then why not. But it seems too often the easy thing to do when you have a kid or 2 is get a gigantic SUV when rarely if ever is it needed. How often do you see something like a Yukon/Expedition driving with 1 person in it versus actually being used to haul people?
PRD2BDF
How did our parents haul us around before there were SUVs the size of tanks? :dumb: Truth. Mom used to drive us around in her Pontiac Grand Am GT Pace car two door. We went to Canada many times and some of those years were in a 1992 Ford Ranger extended cab. 10 hours in a jumpseat. Talk about brutal. Mom then bought an Astro high-top because of that trip.

So many times I see huge trucks with absolutely zero things in the beds of them. I'd like to see the figures on the percentage of the time truck owners actually have shit in the beds of their trucks. I'd bet at least a small amount of money the percentage is surprisingly low.

I'm in the process of negotiating with Lindsay Acura and want to know who to quote. Its not hard to find invoices. I'm pretty sure cars.com, truecar, edmunds, etc all have ways to find it. ask to see invoice sheet. they don't need to show you, but if you ask to see it and say you'll offer X% over invoice that's a reasonable deal (depending on the car and the market) for the salesman, the dealership, and you.
