Dear PRD2BDF,

I'm interested in a new vehicle. Specifically, I'm looking for something to get me through the inclement weather this winter. I do a lot of driving, so I need something that is safe, has good traction, and can sustain the occasional fender-bender that inevitable comes when slipping and sliding on the ice. I was thinking something like a Jeep or SUV? What would you advise?

Thanks,

Concerned in Columbus

Dear Concerned in Columbus,

Here are some that I think would work out great for you and would fit all your criteria. Good luck, but know you'll be covered against the elements in any of these!

Regards,

PRD2BDF

I see it being a real hit in the Hoover vacuum cleaner salesperson community.

CTS-V or G8 GT (or Chevrolet SS if you need it to a 2013+)

The SS looks way better in person than pics, they are rare (won't see 2 of them on your way to work like all the other cars in this thread) and they should be pretty cheap now

535i is a beast. Great power train stock but is an Ecu flash and bolt ons away from 450hp easy.

New 550i with the v8tt is insane but higher price tag. They make 600+ with a flash.

I prefer no x drive but being in Ohio it isn't a bad thing. Super Comfy cars, handle outstanding for a sedan.

Idrive isnt bad. I had it on my 335i and it was pretty easy to use.

Its weird the M5 needs to be paired with the SMG tranny. The manual doesn't have the same feel. However the SMG tranny is laggy and clunky esp in city driving. It basically sucks. And it's big $$$ to service.

The 535i is a great substitute with te M package. And if you want to have a little more cargo the 535i comes in wagon and manual if you are after rowing gears and it looks sexy

Yeah I'm leaning toward a 535i. I've found a few with the M sport package that I think look great. I priced some M5s, but im not blown away with their looks relative to price. And obviously they aren't as practical.

We're 10 years removed but my dad's 2003 530i Sport was a huge disappointment to him. Custom ordered Euro delivery car, liked it for a few months and then realized he hated the transmission and that's the whole reason he special ordered it.

They got a 2011 1-series and love it, but said that's the end of their BMW purchases, they're sick of the brand.
