redkow97
I'm looking at the 2010 trackday budget, and this year's numbers aren't adding up like last year's (went back to school and had to quit my second job. $9k less to play with this year )I'm at least entertaining the idea of selling my track bike, and getting into dirt riding - but I have no idea where i'd ride.suggestions? (I'm in NEO, but it's not like I don't drive several hours to do trackdays anyway...)for those who are into dirt riding now, how much am i going to miss doing 140 mph, and dragging a knee through corners? Can off-road riding really be a substitute, or am i just going to end up with another expensive hobby, and a 3rd or 4th bike in the garage? redkow97
is this place still open? www.dirtworldmx.com?I used to have a friend who owned land in Richfield, and we could ride there "as long as we didn't tear up the main drive," but i lost touch with him in high school...$20 for 4PM-dusk beats the hell out of $165+ for trackdays... buildit
Get a good dual sport bike and tear it up anywhere you find unposted off road riding! Plus plated DS bikes don't need State permits to rid on State ORV land. Wayne still requires a permit on the federal ORV areas but it's only like $2 for the day and less than you're track day for the year. SirPsycho
i like to ride Wayne National forest in nelsonville. You can camp for free. The week days are great because you have the hole place to yourself it seams. Lots of trails there also. The price for a weekend pass went up last year. a daily pass is $ 7 daily to $12 something like that. You can get a year long pass If you plan on going more than three times it is worth it. I get excited to ride the dirt and it sticks in my head for several days after I leave the trails just like the trackdays do. I walk around before and after a dirt or track day with a stupid grin making motorcycle noises out loud. Both are great fun I think a couple dirt days may take the edge off of not doing as many trackdays, I would stick with the trackdays and find a cheap dirt bike. XC_Raptor700R
I mostly ride at Harris Acres, a private XC course about a half hour from home. I also ride Wayne National Forest alot, I always get the annual permit for $45. I try to hit Crow Canyon once or twice a year. I've also been to Perry State Forest. XC_Raptor700R
Dirt riding is super hard compared to street riding. It's fun' date=' rewarding and breathtaking.. but it's extremely demanding. I love it.. but suck at it. A dirt bike will try to kill you every time you ride it.[/quote'] I agree, it helps keep me in shape somewhat and that's also why I choose 4 wheels, I'd have too many broken bones on 2 wheels, lol. XC_Raptor700R
I would jump a dirt bike all day before I straddled a quad. I don't think they are very safe' date=' at all. You quad guys scare the shit out of me. [/quote'] Lol, that's the way we like it ... I've ran more than one biker off the trail
redkow97
the danger involved in dirt riding is something I'm not thrilled about.Out of all the trackday guys I've met, or talk to online, the only one who has died riding was on a dirtbike...I'll still consider one, but I might be pickier than most about where I'll ride. XC_Raptor700R
It's all dangerous to some extent. I know people that's crashed on cruisers, rockets, dirt bikes, and quads. If I died on my quad, at least I went happily !
buildit
Given the choice I'd ride off road any day compared to doing 5 miles around the North end of 270 at 5:00.

buildit
But thats what I call fun just dont get caught spliting lanes To many morons with cell phones in their ear or trying to yell at the kids while reapplying makeup. Either way I trust my own riding abilities far more than I trust their driving ability.

swingset
the danger involved in dirt riding is something I'm not thrilled about. If you're trail riding, and not trying Nitro-Circus shit, you're probably safer than riding on track day. When you wreck on the dirt, your speeds are low, the dirt is softer than asphalt, and generally it's just you falling over and not an impact with someone else.If you have good gear, and are riding even remotely within your limits, it's pretty hard to kill yourself. I feel MUCH safer on the trail than at high speed on a track.
