  1. Hey guys it is with some guilt that I am finally able to post up. Many times I tried but just could not seem to be able to finish. The last few weeks have been really tough mentally, physically and emotionally. The surgeon is confident that the tumor has been totally removed so that is a good thing. The bad is my liver is fooked. Today was chemo training and what kind of chemo they are going to hit me with. Gonna be at least 6 months worth and hope for the best. That starts in 4 more days. It sure was a kick in the ass after only been retired for just over a month. I owe our own Nivin a huge load of gratitude. Yes he is part of my renal group and a decision that he made turned around one large obstacle that was causing some me some major issues. Thank you my friend I will forever be grateful. So that's pretty much it for now. Thanks to each and everyone of you guys and gals for the good wishes. Bless you all. Maybe one day I'll be able to shake your hands and thank you in person.

  2. 1. smooth on throttle and brakes (this should address your spinning up the rear issue and "overworking" the rear suspension) 2. smooth on counter steering for corner entry. (this should address the "overworking" the suspension issue.) 3. get someone to take footage of your body position. if it's too hard to actually properly get into position, then do what you can as long as you can still properly smoothly work the controls. (this should help with the excessive lean angle issue) 4. once you get the first 3 up to a certain point, refresh front forks (unless already done) and refresh rear shock. set sag after. 5. if you think I am full of shit, and you really are riding the bike as fast as it can go, ask your next coach to ride your bike, and you follow on his (or someone else who's willing to let you ride their race prepped bike). After you get left for dead within half a lap or likely less, pull back into pits with a fresh point of view. Welcome to the track, where everyone seems to be faster than you, and there is so much to learn! The comradery and improving is truly the best part, I hope you love it as much as I did.

  3. Get the full gloves, liners suck. You end up having to get bigger gloves so they feel right..so you end up with liners and a set of gloves in your saddlebags. Just get the gloves and be done with it.

  5. I picked up a 2006 gen 2 FZ1 today. It has low milage <14k. It has a set of 5 year old Contmotions that will get changed to some Dunlop Roadsmart 3s in the next week. I have only briefly ridden it, but I think this will be a great compliment to the Connie. It is comfortable, light, and quick. It has an aftermarket slip on pipe, but no reflash. I may get it reflashed. Any suggestions from other FZ1 owners?

  7. Get a 300. You will be totally safe from the rear end sliding problem & can work on breaking the front loose & bringing it back up with the knee pressure.

  8. I suggest you leave it alone so you got an excuse. Last guy I dusted blamed it on his tires.

  10. There are days I contemplate picking up an SV650 track bike @Tonik Cheap to run. Cheap to crash. Parts everywhere. Knowledge everywhere. Handle extremely well. Slow in the straights but for fast riders some still find their way around my 1k. Corner speed, corner speed, corner speed. Edit: Did I mention they are cheap?

  11. I think the FZ would suffice nicely for quite some time once the suspenders are setup proper and a few ergo items are added to help get you in "the pocket". Jim, you get off the seat a bit more and the ground clearance will surely improve since the bike will corner more upright. Then once better bp becomes muscle memory, the lean angles and corner speeds climb as your confidence increases, all relative to your form. I'd say you're better off to keep it, upfit it, and track it for a bit

  13. Not planning on a ceiling fan. Turns out My wife is quite clever. She used a magnet on some tap on the end of a pole to locate the nails they used to put up the lath boards and marked them with a sharpie. Betting she'll be putting firring strips up by the time I get home.

  14. You can tell me anything you want about this subject and it will be gladly accepted. And what you say makes perfect sense based on what I am seeing/feeling happening.

  15. Don't take this the wrong way but at that pace you really shouldn't be dragging even on the fz. This comes down to body position and throttle. A bike on the gas will rise and give more clearance, I'm not talking full gas but you need to be rolling on the gas to give you the clearance. Rearsets aren't a bad investment at all, it will help but keep the other in mind. As for suspension if you just want to make sure it's sprung for your weight and setup but I will never tell anyone not to buy aftermarket suspension, it's worth every penny.

  19. Jim, being perfectly honest your coach wasn't giving you the full story. You need to lean off the bike a lot more to see better lap times. Body position is SO important on the track and you're still (from what I saw) in straight up and down mode. That said, having your suspension set up properly will make a huge difference in how the bike feels and in turn how comfortable and planted you feel on the bike. I don't doubt the FZ has more to give but if you're wanting to transition completely into track riding with maybe 1 or 2 days per year of SEO twisties, a 600 is the way to go. The difference in achievable top speed at the track between a 600 and a 1000 is only a few MPH on one, maybe two straights. Case in point, 600's give me a run for my money on the CBR all the way down to the kink on the back straight, and even then when I pass it's mostly about braking later than them. At our level, it all comes down to rider ability. I can 100% guarantee you that if we put a Moto(pick one) guy on your FZ6 and sent them out in I or A group on a normal day they would blow everybody's doors off except maybe the top 1%.

  20. The fz is very capable and I don't trust your coach. That being said don't even consider a 1k, you will slow your progression.

  21. I had a great day. With the bike running well, I was able to get into the 1:46 range. That was a 9 second improvement over last time out. If that progress can be expected every time (and I think it can) I'll be knocking on 37s soon. Regardless, it was a thrill to be WOT in 6th banging off the limiter around the kink. Weeee!!!

  25. 2006 is the same year as mine. It was the first model of this generation and had an issue with throttle snatch. Ivan's made a fuel cut off module that plugged in to the wire harness and keeps the fuel from completely shutting off when you turn off the throttle. It is most necessary on that year. It's the only thing I've done to mine. Great bike right out of the box but kind of heavy. You will want to upgrade the seat and handlebars eventually.

  30. Hi guys, I'm new so thanks for the board! I ride throughout MI, IN and OH. I race a lot of motocross but also have Yamaha R6. I figured it's time I look into an easy way to secure my bikes from theft. A good friend of mine bought one of these and really likes it *** REMOVED SPAM LINK *** and it looks like it will work on dirt bikes or street bikes. What do you guys think of it? What do you use? Thanks!
