  1. I haven't had a failure like that but should stock up on cables. Closest I did have was a friend's bike broke the shift bar and he was stuck in the nearby Metroparks. He called me and I showed up with my trailer and brought him home.
  2. I'm getting my Subaru sorted, but hopefully I can find an old 5sp 4Runner and sell the Subaru.
  3. While I'd like to say I'll miss my tie-down strap "test" going down Penndale Rd when heading home, I think I'll be alright without the bumps.
  4. Thank God they repaved that road. I hated driving up there. When did the track ownership change hands? And the name change would stink. Everyone smiles when they say "beaver run".
  5. I hope they specify what kind of "toys" they want you to bring. Some kid could be in for a real surprise when they unwrap a vibrator.
  6. We have cars that pick up phones and run them through the car's stereo. I'm sure it's just as easy to make the phone recognize where it is and disable the call/text functions while the car is in gear, unless it's hooked to a hands-free unit/bluetooth. OR Have a phone endorsement on your license. It'll be another portion of the driver's test. Many say they can talk/text while driving, but few really can. This will be their chance to prove it. It can also be revoked.
  7. Want one? Jeff- I contacted D'ecosse and told him of your predicament and problem with the bike. Hopefully he'll get with you shortly. Let me know if you don't hear from any of the SVR admins and I'll bug them some more.
  8. This schedule looks outstanding! Four Beaver dates and Grattan and Putnam! I had a terrifying day at Grattan this past year with STT due to bad tires and inexperience, but definitely want to give it another go. But adding Putnam to the list could be fun too. I'll let time decide but want to do at least one of them.
  9. Same here. I've never been on a page, never went to the website, don't know how it works nor care. I prefer real friends, meeting and talking in person!
  10. I was eyeballing that myself but bought my Aprilia instead. It seems they're a tad hard to come by.
  11. I don't know all the details of the VIR/AMA split, but it sounds like VIR's owner was after some extra cash as well. The new schedule is something to be excited about in any case. It's nice to see the wait between Daytona and Race#2 is a little shorter, plus it's Road Atlanta!
  12. That's a nice looking bike in my opinion. Looks like it came within $75 of his reserve, I'm willing to bet the high bidder didn't know. I'd say it's worth $1800.
  13. I hate the beautiful Ohio plates so much that I was going to ask for a DUI plate for my Aprilia when I get around to tagging it. Looks like I won't have to now. One of my cars still has the Sunset plate on it since it looks better than the RWB plates too. It's been on 3 cars now and despite its rust, it still looks better than anything that's come out since. It's nice they finally made simple and plain available again.
  14. I build my SV out of a wreck but it doesn't have much in the way of race goodies. It's basically just a street bike that goes on the track, but the point was to have a track bike that was as cheap as possible. It's fast enough for me, and plenty of fun.
  15. I don't minde it but but it stinks with a passenger. I ride the interstate every day I go in to work so I'm used to it, but straight lines on a sportbike seems like a waste. I only take it if I have somewhere to be. Now, if our interstates were like the eastern PA turnpike or WV turnpike, the slab would be much more interesting.
  16. I checked them out, they're in the 10-15 mile away category. It's no biggie, the bike I have through the HD dealer is more than suitable for what I'm doing. I'm only able to carry minimal safety gear so a slow bike is probably a better idea anyway.
  17. I have more close calls during the "normal season" than I do Spring or Fall. I swear drivers are getting worse and worse, however. Case in point, I almost got T-boned in my neighborhood, IN MY CAR!! Lady totally blew a stop sign and about ran me off the road, never looked till I chased her down and had a few words with her. I hope she'll be more careful next time.
  18. I enquired with Big Kanuna Rentals per Sniper's suggestion about an XR1200. I'd go for the R6 but want something with saddle bags since the first day will be more sightseeing and may involve my girlfriend doing some shopping. Also checked with another rental agency about a BMWR1150 which would be much, much preferred but the photos show no saddle bags. If it has them, I'm taking the bimmer. Had to go with an HD rental for Haleakula, no choices there. It was Harleys or Vespas, or a 15 mile car ride to another better equipped rental place. No biggie, they gave me a half day free.
  19. Don't put it on the track unless you can afford to push it off a cliff. While I think the Honda would be a better bike, the Suzuki is also an incredible machine and you can put the money you save toward at least 4 trackdays.
  20. I have no heated gear but took up riding with an old snowboard jacket over my gear. That and some old ski gloves with a leather palm. I was riding on 71 from Medina to Cleveland just last night in 41deg air at 70mph, and was pretty comfy. I have no fairings and no windshield on my SV, so I face all the wind. I have a pair of dirtbike handguards I need to reinstall too. They make a big difference. For pants, I have armored cordura pants that I wear over jeans, but could fit much more insulation in if need be. I'm only mentioning this as an alternative. I don't have the cash for heated gear so I make due with what I have. The biggest thing is blocking the wind, after that you're good.
  21. By the looks of things, we're doing some riding to and in the two national parks, and Honolulu. Won't be able to swing Hana. Bummer.
  22. Thanks for the leads, I was eyeballing the same rental agency.
  23. Damn, I could have used this on my Hawaii trip that's coming up in November! Put me in line if everyone before me fails to get in contact with you.
  24. I'm going to Hawaii at the end of November and I'm considering renting a motorcycle for a couple days. Anyone know what it's like riding there and dealing with drivers? I'm assuming it can be maniacal with tourists being tourists. I just want to know what to expect. I'll be at Maui and Hilo, and Honolulu.
