I’ve always heard talk of the Hartford and Lancaster fairs having pretty big events. You’ll probably find most of this stuff in the late summer and fall.

So now you have a car full of shitty splices under the dash. I wish I kept track of how much of this shit I’ve had to fix over the years. I’ve had to remove and repair wiring for things like this quite often, and like most techs all I’m willing to do is attempt to restore it to stock, you get this pile of aftermarket shit back in a box. On even newer cars aftermarket electronics will fuck up so much shit you never even thought of. Just about everything in a modern car is controlled by a data buss, so in order for aftermarket shit to work it has to try and talk on said buss. I’ve had these cars go into limp mode just for having an insurance tracker plugged into the OBD2 port (that’s a whole other rant/scam).

Just go on tire rack and select “extreme performance summer” that’s pretty much the autocross tire category. Read some reveiws and look into sizes. I have a set of Bridgestone RE-71R that are really good. They’re great autocross tires. They may have issues on a road course with heat, but you also have to drive hard enough to use them up, so it’s not just the car and the tire, it’s your abilities too.

I never run anything other then blank rotors, lots of proof out there that most drilled/slotted/whatever rotors are just not worth it. Carbotech pads are popular with Corvette drivers and I like their compounds. As for wheels and tires go I’d just consider some quality summer performance tires on whatever rims you want to run on. I don’t know the car to give specifics, but I wouldn’t be swapping wheels out all the time. I’d just run those all the time throughout the summer. I don’t see any reason to go crazy just starting out.

Surprised to see you posting this, but glad I’ll have someone else to autocross with. Looks like a good project for that, even though I know nothing of BMWs.

Finish installing cooling mods on the Corvette, radiator, fans, oil cooler, power steering cooler, Turn One pump. Very tempted to do a cam in my truck. Really want to do more fun stuff in 2019, I really want to make at least one track day (ie Mid Ohio or Nelson). I want to buy a trailer but maybe I can talk Wagner into getting one I can use, especially since I have no where to put it.

My initial thought was a temp sensor not reading the right temp. Could certainly be a severely carboned up throttle body. Search some Ford forums?

Well where the automotive landscape is right now; unless it’s already in production or some new tech (like autonomous or electric), it’s probably on a shelf and will stay there for some time.

A couple things I want to say on this topic. Starting with this, I agree that these are good numbers, especially for a truck. However current technology could produce better numbers. When you have Corvette ZR1s breaking into the 10s, or Hellcat Redeyes running 9s, it wouldn’t be hard to have an 11 second truck. So the argument has to be made if something like this would sell, in short maybe. Certainly big dumb bro trucks sell, but so do these fast cars. Would I or anyone I know be in the market for one? Probably not. So perhaps in a limited number making it special you could have some type of muscle truck. I’d bet with the current state of the automotive market with GM and Ford scrambling to kill off cars and re-evaluate their position, this is likely one of the farthest things from their plans at this time. I’d love to buy a used one in 10 years to play with but I doubt it’s going to happen in the first place.

Especially on a FWD car if they are not rotated then the front will wear much faster. On most FWD cars the rear tend to feather and cup if left on the rear for longer periods of time. If you wear out the fronts, and then just replace 2, you’re bound to have mismatched tires. Then the rears are old and outdated, usually in half ass condition when the fronts are good. If you buy all 4 you wasted alot of the original rears. For the best ride, and performance of any car, rotate the tires, and replace in sets. If you want to get the most out of you investment (the car) then quality proper tires, and tire maintenance, go a long way toward keeping stress off other components and make the car have the traction and ride it was designed to have. In short don’t be cheap and lazy. When I get cars with mismatched tires and general signs of a cheap owner bringing their car to me, especially on a ride quality concern, you can be sure I’ll price a whole set of tires, and anything else that car might need. I could care less to deal with people like that, they can take their car to some cheap aftermarket shop and gjve them headaches. /rant

Supposed to cross rotate them, an awful lot of techs go straight front to back. It’s not the end of the world either way, it’s a much bigger deal that tires get on the other axle.

Depends on the tires, in most cases anything over 3oz should throw up red flags. So unless the wheels are bent, or the tires are cheaper big truck tires, there’s probably something wrong and will never ride correctly regardless of balance. There are so many things that can keep you from having quality rolling stock, despite the obvious in quality wheels and tires, just setting up the machine correctly can make all the difference. Sad thing is techs who typically do tires aren’t usually very experienced or trained.

GM is always doing things that seem to be caused by Ford and Chrysler, like the damn company name on the grill. I have always been very die hard GM, but I have totally lost interest in the last few generations of stuff. With the exception of how fun the Camaro and Corvette still are, I have no intentions of buying what’s out now. I’ll just keep making money fixing them and driving my old stuff. Quite honestly I only really like what came out in the early 2000s hence what I own. The whole thing is just sad really.

The pictures of the 2500 look horrible, I doubt that’ll look good in person. Now that said the new Camaro (at least the V8) looks way better in person. The V6 I don’t like. The new 1500s I thought looked gay in pictures too, but in person is not all bad. Not sure I like either more then what they replaced, but look way better then their pictures. You guys should swing by a dealership and have a look in person.
