copperhead
Hi all, I'm Mike. Casper had me join many years ago when the forum was new, but I never had a bike so I never posted. I just picked up a 2012 V-Strom 650 from a Chrysler dealership in a small town near Canton that they got on trade in. It looks to be an Adventure model, which comes with oem Suzuki luggage mounts and side boxes. I'd like to add a top case but don't really want the Suzuki one. Does anyone know what my options would be if I want to keep the original side cases but use a Givi top case? I'll try and get some pictures up soon. Most are easily mounted to your rear rack so if you find a used one for another bike keep in mind they are easily installed. Top Boxes are great for touring and commuting but just remember to keep the weight down to a minimum especially if you are doing any off asphalt because the high weight can cause some stability issues for new riders. I had a Givi luggage on my 04 and had no issues. Take a look at the V-Strom site: http://www.stromtrooper.com/ The folks over there will tell you what you should do, what you need to do, how you should ride and of course give you at least 500 options as to what is available for your bike even if you did not ask. Also you will receive a lot of opinions of what the V-Strom can't do or should not be tried. Blah Blah Blah. Check out the V-Strom Rally at Ironhorse lodge. http://www.stromtrooper.com/events/396298-2018-eastern-v-strom-rally-stecoah-nc-may-17-20-2018-a.html My Givi Top Case, "empty" on the Dragon 2008 Edited December 16, 2017 by B-Mac

Tonik
Never heard anyone complain about Givi on their bike. Except Tim, but it's not Givi's fault he is a dumbass and lost his key.
Qman
Ive had excellent experience with Givi over the years, with the exception of their tanklock tankbags, which is a complete POS design. All their top cases are a great value and good quality.

copperhead
Thanks everyone. I think I answered my own question, found an adapter here: http://www.adventuretech.biz/adventure-to-givi-adapter.html

I'm not a fan of their top case latching but it seems to work okay. Their adventure stuff looks pretty decent but I've never personally used any of it. I sent mine back after nearly losing the bag while rolling down the freeway. Had to keep it bouncing between my arms until i got off the exit. The bag itself is decent, but the locking mechanism is a joke. Switched to a SWmotech bag and couldn't be happier.

I was very back and forth between the Givi and Sw-Motech (I really like SW-Motech with the powered tankbags). I've never had my Givi even show the slightest hint of coming unlatched. Pauly
I can open a Givi trunk with a flat blade screwdriver and not damage it. Not impressed with security, but they hold shit and keep it dry.

It came with a danmoto pipe on it, and I'd rather not wake the neighborhood when I leave for work at 4:00am
