How much is in your car???

Seeing all of these threads about "LS1 vs. every other engine out there" has made me think. How much money have you actually put into your car, and what are the results??? This way we can show people out there how much it really takes to make a fast car. So we need total cost, dyno numbers/quarter mile numbers, the engine you are working with, and the car its in.

I'll go first

LS1 in a 2001 WS6

LS1's have got to be some of the most expensive cars to mod (if you do it right). Yes you can go cheap... but you get what you pay for! This is the quick break down from my mod spreadsheet. Keep in mind that I havnt even started on the block yet.

WS6 Store $5,795.86

Rossler Transmission's $4,494.00

Jegs $4,110.39

Billingsley Racing $2,711.00

Ls1tech $1,750.00

MISC $973.47

Nitro Daves Nitrous Outlet $798.70

Ebay $702.48

Umi Performance $609.97

Summit Racing $432.90

Total: $22378.77 (on go fast parts alone)

420rwhp through an A4 on motor. Numbers on spray... my little secret ;)

Ok, now lets see which engine cost the least amount to mod.

Enough to make me want to do a header off a very tall building.

Last time I added up receipts (before this last bit of work), it was 18k in after market parts (and I have receipts for most of this). Add the 20k I paid to Ricart for the car and you come to one ridiculously expensive pofs dsm.

2002 Mustang GT

I know there's alot more that I don't remember. That's $27230 and doesn't include the stuff I had when I ran the 5 speed. Last year with the little turbos it ran a quickest of 10.64 and the highest mph was 131.8 and that was with a race weight of 3700lbs.

This is what I was looking for. If I replaced my nitrous kit with a twin turbo I would be at $27k as well. The biggest difference is that I havn't purchased a block yet. I also noticed that you didnt list your suspension mods. I'm going to assume you have them because your car is fast as hell!!!

So, basically it costs around $3000 less to mod a GT. An average priced pre-assembled block would take me up to around $32000 (with a TT).

98-02 Trans am/Z28 - The price is usually $2k-$7k more than an 01-03 GT

To make a reliable sub 10 second car will cost a lot. You are looking at a good $55k+ with the car included. When you get done you will have a car that can 60' like a beast and has top end power. 700rwhp can put you in the 9's.

01-03 Mustang GT - The car cost makes this a lot easier to buy.

Not everyone has perfect credit, or enough money to afford high monthly payments. This makes it one of the easiest cars to mod for the buck. $30k for mods, $15k for an 01' GT with 30k miles. $45k to make a complete/reliable 10 second car. When it's all said and done you could have saved over $10k by getting a Mustang instead of an LS1 car.

03 Cobra - Around $4k-$6k more than a WS6/SS/GTO on average

Very easy to mod, price is high, but the ability to mod makes it cheaper than the LS1 and the GT overall. It would cost about $40k to make a monster with the cost of the car included. I have seen that a lot of them like to spin. It takes some severe foot control to put the power to the ground. If you have a lead foot this may not be the best car for you.

93-98 Supra TT - One that is 100% stock can be up to $20k more than a Cobra

They are easy to mod, but the car is expensive. In the end this may seem funny, but you can make a 900hp Supra for less than it takes to make a 900hp GT. My only issue is that it takes a lot of HP for them to run low numbers. Most of them with around 900-1000hp are running 10's/11's. If you can afford to pay over $36K for a used car then it's worth it. Most people mod their cars over years. Getting a Supra is like having the cost of 90% of your mods added to your loan payment. If I didnt have a car I would do my best to get into a Supra. These cars are sexy!

6 cylinder cars - Cheaper than a Mustang GT, but can cost more to mod than an LS1 car.

I have noticed that it can cost a lot of money to turn a v6 (not inline 6) into a 10 second monster. In the end I have seen it take up to $60k-$70k total. If you are doing autocross these cars are the middle ground for straight line racing and taking on some curves.

4 cylinder/rotary cars - ... I have no clue

Evo's are sweet, and I have read about plenty of 4 bangers eating up autocross tracks. I have seen some RX7's destroy Corvettes, and some Neons roll race with Vipers. I would assume it costs more than a 6 cylinder to make it run 10's.

Hope this helps you guys that are looking to buy new "race" cars. Now all you have to do is decide which style is good for you, and which one is more comfortable.

:D YES I AM THAT BORED RIGHT NOW :D I feel like I should go work for Car and Driver Magazine LOL!!
