Aww, come on, guys, there's still a few pockets of decent weather left. Flying Brick and I did a 600-mile round trip from C-bus to Urbana, IL over two days last week. Averaged about 35°F getting there and about 25°F getting back (before windchill @ 70MPH brought it down between 19° and 1°F). Empty on I-70 and I-74 though...only saw three bikes other than us. Layers, a pair of heated gloves, and a Zumo 550! That's all you really need.

Still waiting for Brick to try the scooter...needs some snow. :)

Well we old UJM riders have a Purple Toe Contest....Here are the rules we live by...

How to play:

If you ride a motorcycle on a day when the temp is at 32 degrees or lower, you score points.

Each degree from 32 down to whatever is worth 5 points. For example, at 32 you would get five points, 31 you get ten points, 30 you get 15 and so on.

If you choose to ride on ice or snow, you are a complete nutbag and will not receive anything extra for being that crazy.

No "windchill" temps, only the real temperature.

One mile or a hundred, doesn't matter.

Only one ride counts per day. (you can't run inside, warm up, then go back out and expect it to count)

Post here each day you hit the road at, or below freezing. (or whenever, we trust you not to cheat) While I will try to keep up with the points best I can, unfortunately I will have less time to keep up with the game this year. Ultimately YOU are responsible for keeping track of your total points.

I will try to update the score every day.

(...but if it takes a couple days don't get your panties in a wad)

No leaving the house at 11:59 and returning after midnight to get two days in.

Fairings are allowed.

Heated/electric gear is allowed.

Non-UJM's are allowed.

Dual sports are allowed as long as the ride in question was done on the street.

Dirtbikes, lawnmowers, cars, trucks, tractors, airplanes, speedboats, Pwc's, R.V.'s, Atv's, battery powered kids toys and any other vehicle that IS NOT a street driven motorcycle is not allowed.

While I know many of you feel the need to cheat, at least try to stick with the spirit of the game. At the very least, think about what everyone else is doing and try to do what's fair.

Remember: If you die from hypothermia, you are automatically disqualified, so bundle up.

Starts: December 1st.

Ends: April 1st. (no coincidence there, huh)

The winner will be announced April 4th.

So what do you win for freezing you're test sickle's off?

The much coveted and sought after "Golden Ice Cube Tray"! (the tray is golden, not the ice )

You will get to keep (and proudly display) the "Golden Ice Cube Tray".

(Kind of like the America's Cup, only more worthless)

I commuted today, too. Fuck winter.

After the hands go numb, they burn, then they go numb again. Then you don't have to worry about them.

Anyway, it just makes hot coffee on arrival taste that much better.

EDIT:

The contest looks fun. I'm in. Are we just using the temp listing from the ORDN home page (in the bar on the left if you're blind)?

And, I actually had to google 'ujm' to discover what it meant, and that in fact I own one. Sweet.

That disclaimer was pure win. But you said in the rules:Dual sports are allowed as long as the ride in question was done on the street

Then in disclaimer: Contest for off-road use only

Yeah, I actually read the whole thing

So, I scored 65 points today. Rode the bike down to the shop, it was 20 degrees. Maybe I'll get brave and drag all the gear BACK out of the closet and ride it in to fill up the gas tank soon, instead of bringing back a can of gas for it..... I'm just getting a bit skeered of the damn starter clutch acting up worse each day it's started!

I didn't score any points today but did enjoy a short ride :p.

Wimp! Ride it when it's COLD out, at least once! I tell ya, a couple gear improvements, and I would ride in the cold more. It's just tough to get myself to go through gearing up enough for the cold with only a couple miles to go for my daily commute (1.8 each way.)
