Revelstoker
If the "SPEED" triple is too much - don't rule out the smaller "STREET" triple. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_Street_TripleSportbikes are quite horrid at slow, parking lot speeds. The committed riding position limits seeing and being seen.Standards or Naked (Sportster, Street Triple, Bonneville, Nighthawk, Gladius) will offer a nice compromise between sporting ability and upright riding position.Dual sport bikes, reserved for taller people and payback for short guy sport bike love, offer a nice option for low cost, do everything kid of bike. Though, superslab for longer periods is not an option. BMW G650GS is an option given the yardstick stand over test. Not all cruisers are the same. Something like this: http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/kawasaki_z_440_ltd_1982.php should fall into your budget and work really well. An older http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1984-honda-nighthawk-700s.htm would be good as well.If Honda were to bring this to the states, it would be perfect: http://www.bikeexif.com/honda-cb1100Another option:http://dayton.craigslist.org/mcy/3041484557.html

BMW G650GS is an option given the yardstick stand over test. Many dual sports are more comfortable than sport bikes on super slab trips because of seating position. Biggest highway drawback is they are tall and get buffeted around more near trucks and in high winds. But as my friends who rode to Yellowstone and Steamboat on a KLR and XR650 would say, "It can be done". Don't worry soon you'll feel like this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gci-_kk5uQ Edited June 3, 2012 by buildit
Revelstoker
Funny Vid. When a KLR or 650L grows up, it becomes one of these:I am a big fan of the dual sports and would love to put a KTM 690, 530exc or the new 350 exc in my garage. donkason
Honda shadow ACE 750.Perfect bike! A little torque and it can get out of its own way. The 250 starter fad is beyond me. People need to be responsible riders and that can be done on a GIXXER 1000 as long as you don't get throttle happy. Have fun:)Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 2

One of these days I might become more imaginative but I figure it is better than some form of commentary or political statement.
