Dad emails me right back saying find a phone and call me. Borrowed a camper's phone and called him and turns out some guy found the phone on a forest road undamaged and called him. Gotta ride 130 miles NE to Boone in the am to get it. Glad I sent that email. Proof there are still good folk on this rock. What awesome luck

2talltim
Wait, you got up early and cleaned your bike? Don't you mock me for doing that you damn hypocrite? Nope, stopped at the car wash last night on my way back from dinner.
2talltim
Tim, I think off-road riding may be a slight bit bumpier than what your mount is out through. Also, you have to consider the "Danimal" factor into this equation. Lol This is true
2talltim
So far today's routes have been less than stellar. 97 out of Galax was nice but not very long. 53 north out of Mt Airy sucked till you got past Hillsville then it was nice. Once in Ft Chriswell I slabbed up 77 to 717& 601. I have mixed feelings about this road. It was kind of technical and narrow and very scenic but lots of driveways and dirty corners. 90% of the pavemnet was good then it would turn to shit for maybe a 1/2 mile then be nice again for a while. I enjoyed it just not for the same reasons I do most twisty roads. Grab 42 back west it was a decent pavement road for a while then a lot of construction where they're repaving not very twisty at all. Just took 52 from Bland up and over the mountain getting ready to check out Grape Field Road to Tazewell
Al Z. Heimer
Well Doc and I are Rollin. Taking a break and gassing up in st. Mary's. 16 to Marion. FYI. Bugs. Big ones. Lotsa splatter. You guys riding down make sure you have some cleaning stuff handy. Time to go. Later.
2talltim
Grape Field Rd. was epic, makes my top 10 list. First part was fresh paved and like glass and the second part was some wonderful zig zags through the woods. 16 (back of the dragon) was wonderful as usual and I took601/91 off of it for somthing different, nice winding river road. Looks like I headed for Whitetop mountian now.
what
So who all's doing what when and where on Thursday? I plan to arrive between 11am-noon which leaves a good bit of daylight open.
Tonik
Hate Group won't be there until early evening. We are hitting the museum in Maggy Valley, then probably the Cafe Rel. At least I am.
JustinNck1
My current plan is to arrive around 5-6pm. Hopefully just hanging out at the resort for the rest of the evening.

I know I may regret posting this but since I'm a trailer queen this year that means I'll have a vehicle if anyone needs a run to the store for cookout provisions or whatever else... let me know.
Tonik
Listen to What @Hellmutt Going north across the dragon, head down to the lake, take the first 'real' right. Foothills Parkway. 18 miles across, then run it back.

I'd just rather not fight the weekend traffic on the dragon, so I'd like to hit it asap

Either of those scenarios could've ended your trip had you chose not to trudge on. I think you've been lucky enough to meet some great people. Had all that happened around my neck of the woods, you'd be pushing your bike for hours on end while traffic flew by until you got back to a computer to find your phone for sale on Craigslist. You had better buy a stack of lottery tix SOON

2talltim
Been back to the hotel for a while. 320 miles today the second half was much better than the first half. Highlight of the day was a 8 mile round trip up a gravel, rut filled, wash boarded, bolder fill journey up a forest service road to the top of Whitetop Mountian. But the view was worth every butt clinching moment. Also took a video of me coming back down I'll try to up load it tonight.
2talltim
Here's the crappy video I just hit record on my phone when it was in my x grip and hoped ot would capture something. This video dosnt do it justice, this was a pretty steep down hill with rain wash outs and other obstacles. Stopped the camera about two-thirds of the way down to take a picture of the sign
