Scruit Posted October 2, 2015 Report Share Posted October 2, 2015 Once the weather gets cold enough that riding to work is the exception rather than the rule, I have some plans for for on the bike. - Switching to a 14t countersprocket. Almost all my riding is done on country roads where I don't get over... 55mph... Sure, let's go with that... The extra acceleration will help out. - Replacing the speedo background with a better calibrated background so that the speedo is accurate. It reads 8% high across the board for me and I'm sick of having to do the match in my head to figure out how fast I'm actually going.- Checking the air filter and replacing the coolant requires the tank to come off. While Its off I'll be cleaning up some additional wiring that I added for aftermarket goodies like the dashcam and GPS tracker. - Wiring up the crash sensor SOS and remote engine kill features of the GPS tracker.- My aftermarket horns didn't last - I'm going to remove them and the associated wiring, going back to stock. I'm looking for a *RELIABLE* loud horn that is bike specific and doesn't sound like dog's squeaky toy. Who else has plans for this winter? My VFR otoh is spot on. Many countries have laws that say a speedo cannot be inaccurate unless they read high side....so the manufacturers intentionally make them read high so they don't get dinged. jschaf Posted October 2, 2015 Report Share Posted October 2, 2015 Legalities aside, a speedometer that reads high makes the rider think that the bike is faster than it really is. I would think that this is a good thing from a marketing perspective. It is interesting how tires effect speedo readings. Changing from a 50 to a 55 series rear tire gave me a 3% speedo correction but I lost 1.5% when the tire went from new to old. Also, speedo readings are way high when cornering due to the fact that the effective tire diameter decreases by several inches when leaned over. My winter plans are to do the 32,000 mile valve check & refresh the suspension on my cbr. Otherwise it's oil changes, stabil, & battery tenders. Pokey Posted October 2, 2015 Report Share Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) My current bike is new, so it will just be plugged into the tender and ready to go at a moments notice anytime the weather breaks. I have a waterproof outlet to wire up and may do heated grips at the same time, other than that I think I am good for now. Work on assembling trailer for track-bike usage (add wood bedding, tool box, wheel chock, etc). Fix electric on trailer that was destroyed by a certain relative that I let borrow it. Hook the SV up to tender. Put cover on it. Work on selling it in spring. Hook Triumph up to tender, order new stator cover and install. Look at it because it's pretty and orange. Shed a single tear because we'll be apart for so long. May be out and about a little bit before I store though, depends on weather late this month.
