We're booked for Fri-Sun nights over at Creekside.

So we'll be headed south, two wheelin, early Fri morning. We were plannin on 23 south, but the 62-I 75 route looks good too. I'm all for avoiding Cincinnati.....so will either cross at Portsmouth or Maysville.

did you request a first floor? If you're paranoid like me you'll sleep better at night knowing your bike is right outside the window under the 2nd story porches.

Plus in the lodge building they had us in (there are multiple units) it was about the only flat ground to park

Nope I didn't requsst it but I will now.

Where will the mass of Ohio riders start their ride down to the Damn? I live in Dayton, but I am sensing a mass ride from Columbus, correct?

Advise at your convenience and I will probably be joining you on my ST1300 if that's all right with you/plural.

:)~Thanks

I think the masses are trailering. I'm most likely riding down from Columbus. I think Earache is riding down from Indianapolis. We met in Cincinnati last time. I'm thinking about actually leaving Wednesday, and taking a two day long way down. Haven't decided yet. I may just slab it. Depends if the wife goes or not.

So, whats up with the good bbq eats I read someone talking about? Down on 28 in Georgia?

And when is the bonfire starting at the firepit Sat?

Looking at the map seems its a pretty easy route between Fontana and Maggie Valley. Riding back late at night after some mind altering relaxents I want it to be EZ....lol

Iirc, cell service down there can be spotty at best. Having a few different peoples numbers might come in handy too....not wanting any 'Deliverance' kind of surprises....lol

My favorite BBQ place is at the western end of the Cherohala Skyway. Next to the gas station just as you start to enter Tellico Plains. Big brown wood building. The pulled pork is awesome. There is also an outstanding place in Robbinsville on 129 just as you enter town coming down from the dragon. On the left in a strip mall across from a motorcycle leather/accessory shop. Outstanding brisket.

Easy, but further than you think. It's probably 90 minutes or so. Consider Cherokee for alternate lodging. Tons of hotels, many mom and pop hotels that are cheaper. And there is a casino there. Or Robbinsville, which is VERY close. But dry.

I see its like 1.5 hrs or so. Kind of splitting the difference by staying in MV. Since the wife is riding her own, and this is her first trip, trying to keep the initial ride down time wise. That and the cost is half of what Fontana is offering and probably cheaper than Cherokee, at least for something clean...lol. Wife is adament about not riding the Dragon herself, so am just trying to find some good riding for her that is in her comfort level. Planned on riding the Cherohola Skyway so that bbq joint you mention might just work out. I've had some other suggestions from locals down there, just need to zero in on those roads. Our return trip will be up most of the BRP, probably jumping on I-64 @ Buena Vista and scooting on the slab home. That route looks to be 5 or 6 hours (Buena V. to Circleville).

Lets just hope for a few dry days.....6-3 thru the 16th.....probably a pipe dream.....lol

Thanks.

If you want to make sure she has a good time make sure you plan to be back to your hotel by dark. Riding on the roads down there at night on a motorcycle doubles the intimidating factor.

Just throwing this out there.... IMO. New riders and first time Gapers should stay together in a group led by a veteran Gap rider that is in no hurry and that won't hesitate to speak up and say something to someone getting over their head. This is no place for a ego or for someone with something to prove. Too far from home for another "incident" to happen like has happened on most every group ride I've been part of the last 2 seasons. I'm hoping the faster groups will step up and tell someone they need to go with a different group if the need arises. Its a long way to the bottom if you fuck up.

Good idea. I'll probably come to the bonfire with her riding 2 up to make it easier. I hadn't thought about the fact that when we were there years back we only did daylight rides, and on some of those roads that was bad enough...lol

I will be in said group or riding at my own pace. I'm in no hurry, nor do I want to fuck up my bike or myself.
